“It will be an ode to the love that is born from weapons, a dance between swords and hearts, where the passion for life merges with respect for history”, dedicated to an ancient and exciting tradition: that of the Palio, between the most fascinating and significant ones handed down to this day in the city of Este. This is the idea at the center of the new videomapping show which, from next 2nd to 5th May, for four consecutive evenings (every evening starting from 9pm and until 1am) will illuminate the ancient façade of the Ducal Palace of Ferrara, including the tower, with one of the most characteristic stories of the city of Este, that of its Palio.

In fact, ‘D’arme & d’amore’ is the title of the multimedia installation of artistic video art designed for Ferrara in recent months by the famous artists of Andrea Bernabini & Sara Caliumi, with music by Davide Lavia, artists of the Neo Visual Project (www .neoproject.it) who had already enchanted Ferrara in recent years with their creativity.

After the videomapping shows on the Duomo, on the Estense Castle and last year on the occasion of the ‘Renaissance in Ferrara’ exhibition on Palazzo dei Diamanti, for the show on the facade and on the tower of Palazzo Ducale (once the Este residence) the group of artists has worked in recent months on the creation of suggestive and evocative complex animations in 3D and with the use of motion graphics, capable of modifying the viewer’s visual perception by creating an imagery of amazement and wonder. ‘D’Arme & d’Amore’ will invite the public to immerse themselves in the stories of heroes and saints, among passions, sacrifices and dreamlike symbols, of a distant time that continues to pulsate in the heart of the city.

The screenings – scheduled from Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 May – will start every evening from 9pm, with repeats approximately every 20 minutes (last screening at 00.40).

On Saturday 4 May the show multiplies with Lorenzo de Blanck from Ferrara, who starting at 10.30pm will give life to a unique live musical set, for the first time from the balcony of the Sala dell’Arengo of the Municipal Palace which overlooks the square. Lover of vinyl, but also of new technologies, historic DJ at Simple in Ferrara and since last year resident DJ for the famous “Cocoricò On The Beach” event in Riccione, Lorenzo de Blanck comes from house music and is always looking for new sounds , which he also developed thanks to the numerous trips that took him to play around the world.

During the DJ set the building will be colored by video images generated in real time live, synchronized with the music chosen by De Blanck. The visual will be curated by Andrea Bernabini and Samuele Huynh Hong Son (Neo Visual Project), who in their career boast collaborations with internationally renowned DJs such as Bob Sinclar, Steve Angello, Axwell, Fedde Le Grand, David Morales, Dirty South, Arno Cost , Sebastian Ingrosso, Daddys Groove, Hector Romero, Satoshi Tomiie and James Zabiela.

“After last year’s success – declares Luca Cimarelli, president of Ferrara Tua – for the second time it is Ferrara Tua, together with the Municipality, that directly organizes this wonderful show. We are and will be increasingly close to the Administration when it comes to the organization of the city’s main events and the promotion and marketing of the territory. This year’s was perhaps the most intense videomapping to be carried out, and a big thank you goes to all those who have been working for months to give the city of Ferrara what will be dream images, lights and music. A final big thank you goes to all the commercial activities that have given their availability and concrete help to allow optimal viewing of the show.”

As Nicola Borsetti, president of the Palio Città di Ferrara Foundation, recalls, “with this show we kick off the celebrations which will involve and enrich the city of Ferrara throughout May: the weekend of 11 and 12 May with the art of flag-waving and ancient games of the Estense flags, Saturday 18 May with the magnificent procession through the streets of the centre, in which “the history of the city of Estense parades” with a thousand participants in the traditional costumes of the time, and finally Saturday 25 May with the Palio ‘ under the stars’, with the evening racing spectacle in the picturesque Ariostea square”. “Palazzo Ducale, guardian of secrets and memories, will become the perfect stage for the magic of videomapping, which insinuates itself with light and colors among its centuries-old stones. It will be a tribute to one of the most fascinating and significant traditions of the city of Ferrara, the Palio. Art thus becomes a bridge between past and present, an instrument of celebration and preservation, of valorisation of the historical, cultural and urban heritage of the city. Every movement of light, every brushstroke of colour, will be an ode to the beauty of Ferrara, a declaration of love towards its history and its magic”, explain Andrea Bernabini and Sara Caliumi. “It will be an honor to take part in this incredible show and play in my city – says the Ferrara DJ himself, Lorenzo de Blanck -. For the first time people will be able to dance in this evocative location, combining music with one of the most important traditions of this city.”

The event, with free admission every evening, is organized by the Municipality of Ferrara in collaboration with Ferrara Tua and the Teatro Comunale di Ferrara Foundation, with the historical consultancy of the Palio Città di Ferrara Foundation.
