These images are destined to remain in the history of the city: the mechanical jaws bite the snail and destroy it. We are at the Fair and the works in progress are intended to demolish a piece of history, that is, the first building built in Vicenza with the aim of hosting the fair. The institution was born, in fact, after the war, taking advantage of a long modernist building built at the bottom of the Salvi garden, overlooking the then crystalline waters of the Seriola and flanked by the two loggias, one of which was designed by Palladio. The story then tells of the success of the Vicenza goldsmith sector and the economic boom that led the Vicenza categories to feel the need to build a new building, close to the industrial district and the then most modern connection infrastructures to host the fair. Thus, in 1971 the first building designed for the fair was born, the stepped Aztec pyramid or the snail as the people of Vicenza immediately renamed it, an iconic building which, for those who can remember it before it was incorporated into the warehouses, had its own precise, recognisable, iconic architectural feature. So from today goodbye to the pyramid and green light to the Ieg project which envisages, as explained by the architect Mario Vescovo, director of the Vicenza headquarters, the total demolition by the end of June, then the construction of the new and modern pavilion to be inaugurated in 2025 for be used with the September 2026 edition of VicenzaOro
