“In the last year a ton of cocaine has been seized, the port is one of the top 5 ports for transit of illicit goods. It seems clear to me that preference is given to Salerno in view of the structural deficiencies of the port, such as the absence of high-resolution scanners. It is a fact that narcotic substances enter and exit there, but not only that, waste for Tunisia has also escaped.”

The chief prosecutor Giuseppe Borrelli returns to criticize the surveillance systems of the Port of Salerno after the 15 arrests resulting from an investigation that defeated a criminal association aimed at transnational drug trafficking, aggravated by the mafia method. The association was mainly composed of people of Campania origin in relationships with members of the ‘Ndrangheta gangs of the Alvaro di Sinopoli. The investigation coordinated by the Salerno Prosecutor’s Office started from two large seizures, in March 2023 of 220 kilos of cocaine and a month later of a ton of marijuana, the drugs were hidden in containers and in the engine compartment of a boat.
