From Robaldo to Supergaall of Turin is preparing to remember the Invincibles 75 years after the tragedy. This time, however, the celebrations will begin as early as May 3, race day for the boys of Ivan Juric who will host Bologna. On Friday afternoon, at Philadelphia, there will be the dedication of a flagpole to Erno Egri Erbstein: the technical director who shaped that unbeatable team will find a place in the Courtyard of Memory. «The President of the Philadelphia Stadium Foundation, Luca Asvisio, thus accepted the request of Egri Erbstein’s daughter, Susanna Egriwho will be present at the ceremony – we read in the press release issued by the Philadelphia Foundation, with the appointment set for 6.30 pm on Friday 3 May – the facades of the flagpoles of the “Courtyard of Memory”, which for the occasion were the subject of an intervention of renovation, are named after the champions who made the history of Torino great – in addition to the names of the Invincibles who died in Superga, there are those of two other charismatic figures such as Giorgio Ferrini and Gigi Meroni – and are also dedicated to the championships won in the 1927 seasons -28 and 1975-76″.
From Fila to the stadium
In the evening, however, the commemorations will move to the stadium: during the interval of the match between Toro and Bologna the band dei Sensounico will sing “A rainy day”, with over 21 thousand people who have already secured their place at the Olimpico Grande Torino. For this match Good morning and companions will wear a special shirt, with the three footballers Koffi Djidji, Perr Schuurs and Gvidas Gineitis who will reveal it in preview on Thursday 2 May in the afternoon at the JD Store in the Le Gru shopping centre.
May 4th
The day of May 4th will start with Robaldothe future home of the youth team that is finally starting to see the light. At 10.30 the first ball will be moved on pitch 3 of the sports centrewith the president Urban Cairo expected for the ribbon cutting with a basic activity exhibition match. About an hour later, Don Robella will give the blessing to the tomb of the fallen at the Monumental Cemeterythen theopening the doors to the Philadelphia for the session of Juric’s boys. And in the afternoon, after passing the first stage of the Giro d’ItaliaSuperga will be colored grenade with the usual programme, from the mass in the basilica to the reading of the names by Buongiorno. Despite the traffic problems, a service is guaranteed shuttle service for fans from Sassi to Superga with the via Viotti club which will cover the costs.
The Legend of Erbstein
It was the great wish of Susanna Egri, a sort of legend in the whole world of Granada and Turin. Friday, in fact, one of the Philadelphia flagpoles will be named after his beloved father, technical director of Grande Torino and passed away in the Superga tragedy on May 4th 75 years ago. And she will be there too, who last February 18th he turned 98at the ceremony scheduled for today 6.30pm in the Courtyard of Memory. “Ernő Egri Erbstein was the Technical Director of that legendary teamthe man who shaped it and led it to victory in the four football championships following the end of the Second World War – we read in the press release issued by the Philadelphia Foundation – and he was a precursor of modern footballespecially in the physical preparation of athletes and in the study of the players’ movements on the pitch”.
They are due to the Hungarian the exploits of Valentino Mazzola and his companions: “During his leadership, Grande Torino collected a series of recordslike those of 125 goals scored in the 1947-48 Championshipthe largest victory in the history of single-group Serie A (10-0 against Alessandria) – some of the extraordinary results achieved in those years – and the presence of players from the same team in a match for the Italian national team: on 11 May 1947 against Hungary (Italy won 3-1) 10 out of 11 starters were grenades”. Finally, too the Bull Museum will be the protagonist on days of remembrance: on May 3rd it will be possible to book visits from 3pm to 8pm, while starting from 9pm there will be an evening of events. The following day, however, the museum will be exceptionally open from 10am to 7pm.
