In a city like Taranto, where the employment issue is crucial, any progress towards the restoration of employment services takes on a particular significance. And so, after months of waiting and union mobilization, the moment seems to finally be approaching when citizens will once again be able to benefit from the support needed to find work.

At the meeting held on 29 April at the Heritage Directorate of the Municipality of Taranto, the final technical requirements for the delivery of the municipal property in via Veneto to Arpal, the regional agency for active employment policies, were addressed. This space will be used to host the new offices of the Taranto Employment Centre, a concrete step towards the restart of employment services in the city.

The general coordinator of UIL Taranto, Pietro Pallini, commented: “Finally we move from words to facts and the meeting held on April 29th is just another step forward to restore a tool, one that connects supply and demand of work, in the hands of citizens.”

The situation has been particularly critical since the closure of the Employment Center in April 2023, a fact that Pallini defines as “inadmissible in a city like Taranto which is experiencing a critical litigation season. Taranto is a city that deserves respect and attention from part of the institutions and the battle waged by the UIL in recent months is aimed at restoring law and civility.

The new “Gol” Programme, part of Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, aims to redevelop active employment policy services, offering a personalized and targeted approach to job placement. With the opening of the new offices of the Employment Centre, we hope to be able to launch this program as soon as possible and begin to offer concrete answers to citizens.

The positive news was accompanied by further reassurances regarding the hiring of staff at the Taranto Employment Centre. The Regional Director of Arpal confirmed the scrolling of a regional ranking for 50 new hires, as well as the prospect of a new public competition for the hiring of employees for Arpal’s provincial offices, including that of Taranto.

The technical table will meet again on May 13, with the aim of monitoring the progress of the works and ensuring that everything proceeds according to the agreed plans.

The UIL of Taranto will continue to ensure that the matter concludes with the delivery of the new premises and the opening of the service to the public, thus returning an important tool to the Taranto community, not second to other realities, for its reintegration into work and its dignity of workers.
