Eight children from Gaza will be treated at Burlo in Trieste.
They have arrived yesterday around one in the morning at the Irccs Materno Infantile “Burlo Garofolo” eight boys and girls from Gaza who were taken care of by the hospital for the necessary treatment. Arrived in Friuli Venezia Giulia on a flight from Egypt, organized by the “Save a Child” association led by Sally Backer. The flight landed around 8.30pm at Ronchi dei Legionari airport. The children were accompanied by 13 survivors of their respective families, sick or wounded in the war, by the manager of the Single Center for Booking and Management of Healthcare Activities, Barbara Fari.
As soon as they arrived at Burlo, the children were immediately visited in the emergency room and started on their respective diagnostic and therapeutic pathways. The doctors said that, after an initial period of observation, they will be able to give more information on the conditions of the little patients in a couple of weeks.
Four remained amputees.
In particular, four children are amputees and will receive prosthetics which will be made in Emilia Romagna, two require bone marrow transplant, a child has an injury from an explosion and one has a serious surgical pathology. One was added to the children young woman, mother of one, who is also expecting a second child.
The institute has made available the own guesthouse “Like at home” to welcome family members and the ABC Surgical Children Association an apartment. The Bishop of Udine, Monsignor Andrea Bruno Mazzocato and the congregation of the Rosarie nuns of Udine also worked to find accommodation for the children and their families, while the Bishop of the Greek Catholic Church of Oradea, Monsignor Virgil Bercea gave a fundamental contribution to the organization of the transfer of the eight young patients and their families from Palestine to Trieste. A fundraiser is already underway to find resources for support of children and their families and other solidarity events will be organized shortly.
