Reggio Emilia «The president ofLawyers’ order he will explain his reasons.” This is what he hears from colleagues who sympathize with him Enrico Della Capannain the storm over the sentence pronounced on the eve of April 25th (“We freed ourselves from fascism in 1945, but in 2024 we have not yet freed ourselves from anti-fascism”).
A statement that divided Reggio’s lawyers between those who interpreted Della Capanna’s thought as a genuine personal stance, recklessly entrusted to social media, and colleagues on the left, who did not appreciate the explicit support for the centre-right mayoral candidate (as well as vice-president of the Order) Giovanni Tarquini and they did not feel represented by an institutional figure who should not enter the active political arena. Hence the letter of no confidence, signed by 47 left-wing lawyers, who became seventy in the following days.
The showdown is scheduled for today Tuesday 30 April at 11am, in the board meeting (open to all members) scheduled for some time to discuss something completely different: the approval of the budget. But it will be an opportunity to resolve the controversy over the president. What can happen? The possible scenarios are different: Della Capanna could “offer” his resignation, the budget could not be approved (and in this case it would be a commissioner), finally – this is the most remote hypothesis – the directors could resign. The impression is that no one has the intention of replicating the scenario of 2021, when eight out of fifteen councilors resigned, automatically invalidating the council, which with Della Capanna found a pacification that was only damaged by the current electoral campaign.
