PESARO Dante Alighieri, countdown for demolition. The demolition of the Soria school will begin by Friday. The residents do not grant any other exemptions: «The works were supposed to start two years ago. And since the construction site was set up two months ago, almost no one has been seen. Now let’s move on without further pauses.” Yesterday, in the area around via Gattoni, was a morning like many others in recent weeks from the point of view of construction movement. At least by mid-morning, construction site set up, but no movement inside.
The margin
The situation should change shortly, as was reported in the recent meeting held at the headquarters of the District (date indicated as May 22nd for the start of demolition). Timing which, albeit with more margin, is confirmed by councilor Riccardo Pozzi: «The works will begin this week – he says – The safety coordinator, with whom we spoke, is verifying all the documentation with respect to the staff and figures who were entrusted with demolition by the company. It cannot be said with certainty that the demolition will begin on Wednesday (tomorrow, ed.), but the company that will do the demolition is ready and I confirm that the actual activity should start this week.” The plan involves the dismantling of the old systems, then demolition with cranes with hydraulic clamps, that is, the means that allows complex structures in reinforced concrete to be destroyed, but without vibrations. Measures have been taken to try to reduce inconvenience to the nearest homes on both sides of Via Gattoni, especially due to noise and dust which will disperse within a radius of a few metres. It will take approximately three months to complete the various phases of the demolition, including the sorting of construction waste. The stages of the obstacles were different. According to the original timetable, they should have started between November and December 2022, with the school already free of students. Then there were a series of problems. The project had to be adjusted several times to try to keep the financing obtained within the costs, see raw materials. The professional task was entrusted for the integration of investigations and structural checks – geotechnical consultancy, while the tender for the works management was unsuccessful. Then the road, after a long climb, became downhill starting from the spring of a year ago. After having restarted the practices for a negotiated procedure in order to identify the works manager, the task was entrusted in May 2023.
The renunciation
The company awarded the contract had given up, after some problems emerged, and the offices had moved forward in the ranking, arriving in third place, RTI composed of GM of Fano and Consorzio Artigiani Romagnolo of Rimini. Last March 19th the construction site was set up, the plants on the front side of the school were cut down, then everything stopped, or almost.
Yesterday morning a small group of inhabitants who live a few meters from Dante Alighieri, outside their homes, commented: «The students were moved, already two years ago, to Viale Trieste, where moreover there is a problem of traffic congestion during entry and exit times. But the work never started here. Furthermore, two months ago we saw the company arrive, they put up all the barriers, blocking the traffic in via Gattoni and surrounding areas. Then, nothing more, or almost nothing. We are in favor of these works, but the work must be done. It’s useless to block the road or move students when nothing moves.
The hope
«Now we hope that, once the demolition has started, they won’t stop anymore, because we are not willing to wait any longer, perhaps without seeing anyone at work on the construction site». To remake Dante Alighieri, there is an investment of 6.5 million euros, of which two thirds are covered by regional funding. The current school building in Soria will be demolished and rebuilt in the part relating to the classes and other spaces, except for the gym and auditorium, which have already undergone renovation works. The new structure in Soria will be developed on two levels: the ground floor on the via Gattoni side, the second floor located on the via Fedeli side. The works, according to the times indicated in the contract, will last two years from the start of the construction site.
