SThey left on time this morning traffic data recorded by Italian airports in March 2024 and recorded by Assaeroporti. This was reported by the “Mondo Gino Lisa” committee of Foggia.

“March 2024 recorded a +28% compared to the previous month and an average capacity, overall on all flights, equal to 57%. This was the last month with the previous operating and offering characteristics. In fact, the last four flights to Turin were operated, as well as the connection with Milan was carried out almost every day on Malpensa, while the one with Linate only on Saturday and Sunday. Furthermore, the tariff policy applied was the one prior to that adopted from April onwards. In March 2024, a total of 44 flights (round trip), divided into 4 flights (return) to Turin, 26 flights (return) to Milan Malpensa and 14 flights (return) to Milan Linate. The route to Turin is certainly the one that suffered the most of the physiological decline that is always recorded at airports in the months following the Christmas holidays (people travel less), and has led to the closure (hopefully temporary) of the connection with the Piedmontese capital”.

And they explain. “In this regard, we would like to point out again that the effects that occurred had causes, which it is correct to analyze and not ignore. We think probably it would have been preferable to work on a reprogramming of frequencies and days, instead of proceeding with the elimination of the connection, also considering the excellent results of this route (declared by those directly involved), such as to also justify an increase in frequency after the 2023 summer season. A reactivation of flights with Turin, with a bi-weekly operation carried out on Friday afternoons and early Monday mornings starting from 31 May 2024, without affecting the routes with Linate, Malpensa and Orio, it could count on greater cost efficiency (two return flights per week, only approximately 480 places per week to be put up for sale) and on an upcoming summer/tourist season which will certainly have greater demand”.

In the opinion of the MGL committee “the connection carried out over the weekend will facilitate all those passengers who travel for tourism in the summer and who will be able to have access to an air connection between Piedmont and the Vast Area, no longer available after the elimination also of previous rotations on Milan Malpensa. Mondo Gino Lisa hopes for a reactivation of the route soonwith therefore greater efficiency logic which will benefit the entire flight offer to and from the Gino Lisa”.

As regards the routes to Milan, “from the data in our possession – they highlight -, the connection with Linate operated over the weekend recorded more than positive numbers which can be estimated on average around 69% full. With regard to Malpensaoperated with many more rotations, it is possible to estimate, by difference, an average filling of 55%. Finally, we would like to point out that the statistical evaluations on the various routes are calculated on the basis of unofficial data available from our association and which, obviously, could be subject to inaccuracy”.

And they conclude: “Comparing the data for the month of March with those of January and February of the same year, one can only be comforted by improvements in the following months. In fact, the month of April 2024 saw the activation of a daily connection (with the exception of Fridays) with Milan Linate and the debut of the flight to Bergamo, strengthening Milan and connections with the whole of Europe. Furthermore, the fare policy applied from that month, which is much more favorable for passengers, will certainly bear fruit”.
