Turin – The New Delhi garden is reborn. At the end of the redevelopment works, the garden between Corso Siracusa and Via Guido Reni appears greener, more welcoming and safer. with a new inclusive play area, more meeting spaces and with new low-energy lighting.

The works were financed with REACT-EU funds as part of one of the PON Metro measures which concerns, overall, the redevelopment of nine green areas in all the districts. All the interventions have in common the use of sustainable materials, innovative play equipment and design solutions aimed at mitigating extreme weather events.

The redevelopment of the New Delhi garden led to the creation of a new central, accessible and inclusive play area, equipped with high quality play equipment, with high recreational value, with a new anti-trauma filtering flooring.

The “Viale della Scienza” is also born

Also newly built is the central avenue which, in addition to uniting the play areas present in the garden, now merged and reorganised, represents a real thematic journey dedicated to science, with educational play equipment.

The spaces for sports practice have also been renewed, with the redevelopment of the five-a-side football pitch with new goals and a new layout of the playing lines. Near the field, a rest and meeting area was also created, designed for younger people, equipped with tables and seats, a sunshade pergola and new draining flooring. Additional parking spaces, with seats and new trees to ensure shade, have also been created by converting the disused play area in via Barletta into a grassy area.

The environmental component played a central role in the design of the spaces, with a significant reduction in waterproof paved surfaces and an increase in the tree and shrub heritage, with 31 new specimens planted, to guarantee the natural drainage of rainwater and reduce the ‘heat island effect.

New tables with benches, seats, waste bins and scooter racks were also placed in the garden. Lastly, steps were taken to create a new public lighting system with high efficiency and energy saving technology.
