Faced with 85,030 traffic fines imposed by the municipal police in 2023, the Municipality collected just 2,086,200.62 euros. Too little if you consider that the estimate of expected revenue from the administration it stood at 4.2 million euros. In practice, a hole of around 2 million euros. One in two Salerno residents has not paid the fines imposed by the local police. The shortfall mainly concerns payments of fines for reckless driving.
The Municipal Police, under the orders of the commander Rosario Battipaglia, has taken steps to review the outstanding fines and the number of defaulters could even rise. Fines for parking restrictions, double row parking, but also fines for parking in disabled spaces. The aim is to give oxygen to municipal revenues, already heavily penalized by the failure to pay fines and revenue from fines between 2020 and 2021.
