New appointment with extreme metal at the AudioDrome in Moncalieri. On stage the Swedes Marduk, called to present the new ‘Memento Mori’, accompanied by the Americans Origin and the Dutch Doodswens.
Concert began by splitting the minute between dark atmospheres and the smell of incense. The first to perform were the Doodswens with a female voice also on drums: beautiful stage presence and clean sound seasoned with amulets, perfumes around the musicians and a pleasantly soft light contribute to the success of the set. Second to take over the scene were Origin led by the exuberant frontman Jason Keyser! Brutal and fast, they warmed up the audience with a very precise performance.
The turn of the long-awaited Marduk arrives accompanied by a cloud of smoke to create atmosphere. The band was welcomed by those present in the best possible way, giving an intense dose of discomfort despite some moments of difficulty and technical problems for frontman Daniel “Mortuus” Rostèn. Those expecting a set focused on the latest album will have been disappointed, because Morgan & Co. give us a setlist that embraces the band’s entire discography, starting from the seminal ‘The Funeral Seemed To Be Endless’ and arriving at the recent ‘Blood Of The Funeral’ and ‘Shovel Beats Sceptre’, passing through the various ‘Equestrian Bloodlust’, ‘With Satan and Victorious Weapons’, ‘The Sun Has Failed’, ‘Throne Of Rats’ and ‘Wolves’. The only discordant note on the sidelines was the slap given by the singer Mortuus to the two photographers at the foot of the stage, when greeting the audience. A bad gesture and little respect towards those who were seriously carrying out their work, which tarnished a concert that had been decidedly positive up until that moment.
