RIMINI – “The citrus growing year was complicated by the drought which has now been a constant feature of the last two years. We are on the front line to fight this absurdity of the tax bills requested by some reclamation consortia which however did not provide water”.

The president of the Sicilian PGI Red Orange Consortium underlined this to agricultura.it on the occasion of Macfrut, Gerardo Diana.

“Drought must be fought with innovation – said Diana -: we have control units, drip irrigation. We are at the forefront of saving and reusing water. as a country system there is everything to be done and done quickly, we will need to arrive in a very short time in which all the waste water will have to be used for agriculture and drinking water for families”.

On the market: “Europe and all of Italy. At this moment we need to recover market shares that we lost in the 1970s. We need to win back young people and athletes, we have seen that oranges are eaten by people in their sixties and above.”

And about the Consortium: “The health of the consortium is good, great participation of members, desire to be there to make their voices heard and propose ideas” said Diana.
