The heart of the Aosta Valley, surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Alps, is preparing to experience a moment of profound emotion and spiritual rebirth. On Sunday 5 May 2024, at 10:00 am, at the suggestive Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Snows in Machaby, a long-awaited and wonderful event will take place: the inauguration of the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame aux Neiges.
The atmosphere of celebration and renewal will be made even more solemn by the presence of HE Monsignor Franco Lovignana, Bishop of Aosta, who will preside over the Eucharistic celebration. It is a moment of union and gratitude for the entire Aosta Valley community, an opportunity to celebrate the beauty of faith and art, embodied in the work of restoration and valorization of this sacred place.
The importance of this moment lies not only in the religious celebration, but also in the long and challenging path that led to its completion. A journey that began in 2021 and reached its realization in 2023, thanks to the tireless commitment of numerous actors involved.
The contribution of the CRT Foundation was fundamental, which with its call “Sanctuaries and Communities – Stories that meet”, started the planning of the restoration, assigning a generous contribution of €225,000. A gesture of generosity that was also echoed in the Diocese of Aosta, recipient of funding from the Italian Episcopal Conference and the Autonomous Region of Valle d’Aosta, for a total of over €610,000. The support of the Municipality of Arnad, with a contribution of €30,000, further consolidated the project.
But the success of this venture goes beyond mere financing. It is the result of a broad synergy of skills and passion, embodied in the restorers and Aosta Valley companies who worked with dedication and professionalism. From the renovation of the roofs to the restoration of the stone materials, from the structural intervention to the recovery of the ancient eighteenth-century paintings, every detail has been taken care of with attention and respect for the history and tradition of the place.
Not only restoration, but also innovation and inclusion: thanks to funding from the CRT Foundation, toilets were created for people with disabilities and valorization and communication activities were organized, involving local associations and speakers. A project that looks to the future, promoting the use and knowledge of this place of beauty and spirituality.
The inauguration of the Madonna delle Nevi Sanctuary is therefore a moment of joy and gratitude, a tribute to the faith and culture that characterize the Aosta Valley.
It is the beginning of a new chapter in the history of this sacred place, an invitation to discover and preserve the beauty that surrounds us, in nature as in art, in innovation as in tradition.
