The search is underway for a 54-year-old woman from Lanciano, who has not been heard from since the afternoon of Sunday 28 April. Milena Santirocco, dance teacher and fitness expert, would have left the house around 2pm to go for a walk by the sea. But she didn’t return home.
The alarm went off this morning, when one of the children, who lives with their mother, noticed her absence. At that point the family members turned to the Lanciano police station, which started the search.
The woman’s car, a Renault Clio, was found parked in Borgata Marina, on the Torino di Sangro seafront, near the Via Verde. From there the whole area was combed through, including the holm oak forest. In addition to the police, the searches, coordinated by the prefecture of Chieti, are carried out by the firefighters of Lanciano, the coast guard with a helicopter, and the civil protection with canine units.
The woman’s cell phone is turned off or unreachable. The family cannot explain what could have happened to her. At the moment all hypotheses remain open. Anyone who saw her walking on Sunday afternoon is asked to call police.
