Velletri, against the closure, the ‘La Coccinella’ Family Home starts raising funds: “We are in great difficulty”

Still many difficulties for the family home ‘Ladybug’ Of Velletri, which is increasingly going through a complicated period that is not without obstacles. The structure, located in via Acqua Lucia (in the hills between Velletri and Genzano), presided over by the non-profit cooperative ‘Sunflower SCSO’, hosts severely disabled adults aged between 18 and 65. Already last November, the president Claudio Granato had raised an alarm, reporting “the impossibility of financing the project due to lack of funds”by the district Velletri/Lariano.

However, in recent months the situation has not improved and, if possible, has even worsened. The same President of the Girasole cooperative asked the institutions for help, declaring: “Unfortunately, layoffs and reductions in the hours of staff who assist 24 hours a day have begun. The children of the family home, the volunteers and the president himself are present in the house night and day so as not to leave them alone. To date, there is still no fund to be allocated to the family home service. The volunteers and supporters close to the cooperative and the children try to help as they can, but an intervention is expected from the relevant offices”.

To try to improve the situation, therefore, the cooperative that takes care of the La Coccinella family home has decided to ask everyone for support who will voluntarily decide to help the facility and its employees. On its Facebook page, the family home wrote: “Dear friends, the period is truly difficult, no financial support since January 1st and moving forward only with our own strength becomes very tiring. Unfortunately, some of the operators were forced to lay off despite not wanting to, but too many months without income has become a situation that requires intervention in terms of contributions or immediate funds from the institutions.

In this whole situation people don’t leave us alone: we thank the entire population of Velletri, of the Castelli Romani, of Rome and also of other regions that support us, the contribution, the help and the affection that they never stop giving us. We are starting a collection of economic funds and basic necessities for our children. Unfortunately we find ourselves forced to ask for your support. Only with your help can we achieve better times. To donate, just let us know, we are always open 24 hours a day. Share this message, the more people know about it, the better! We thank you for your support and collaboration during this particular period.”

The material aid requested is food products (food and drinks), fuel, personal hygiene and household cleaning products, diapers size M and L, absorbent pads 60×90, ffp2 masks and disposable gloves size M and L . For the financial donations you can donate to “Girasole Società Cooperativa Sociale Onlus”, Iban IT97L0306909606100000100461.

The cooperative also asked for help by opening a fundraiser on the platform GoFundMe, created precisely to collect donations of all kinds. It is the non-profit organization itself that reports the great difficulty and how the risk of closure is becoming more than a possibility: “The Girasole project was born way back in 2014. The Family Home team, although changed over time, has replaced the family context of each guest, offering, in recent years, a regular life and careful assistance that only parents and relatives know giving, fundamental for everyone’s well-being.

On a daily basis, guests are offered a range of rehabilitative, educational, communicative, relational and recreational activities, which, compatibly with the “Individualized Educational Plan” (PEI/PAI), have ensured the widest social integration both with the realities of the Velletri area (RM), and with neighboring countries. We receive guests with physical disabilities and serious mental disabilities. From this year (2024), unfortunately, our Family Home no longer receives state funds, which over the years came from the Lazio Region which paid them through the municipal coffers. To date, therefore, we find ourselves in great difficulty in carrying out the project.”
