Celebrate the connection between Landscape, Art and Nature, promoting knowledge, protection and enhancement of the Marche hinterland and its Heritage. This is the objective of the PAN Project, acronym for “Landscape Art Nature”, promoted by the FAI Youth Groups of the Marche, who collaborated together to create a project on a regional scale, to be implemented in the various territories over the course of the year.

The project will start from the Piceno area with the village of Cossignano, where for every weekend in May (from 4th to 26th) art exhibitions will be offered in places of great beauty, conferences on biodiversity and the importance of environmental conservation, and visits at local farms that safeguard and take care of the territory on a daily basis. All thanks to the collaboration between the FAI Giovani San Benedetto del Tronto Group, the “Zanini Arte” gallery of San Benedetto Po (Mantua), the municipality of Cossignano and the Colombo family, owners of Palazzo Fassitelli, a splendid historic residence in the village. The initiative also benefits from the patronage of the Province of Ascoli Piceno and the Marche Region.

The first appointment to mark in red on the calendar is set for Saturday 4 May at 6.00 pm, with the inaugural conference of the PAN Project at the Church of the Annunziata, which will be followed by the inauguration of the contemporary art exhibition “PAN, between myth and nature” at Palazzo Fassitelli and an aperitif at sunset in Piazza Umberto I with tasting of typical products.

The exhibition “PAN, between myth and nature” will remain open for every weekend in May from 10am to 1pm and 3pm to 6pm at Palazzo Fassitelli and the Church of the Annunziata. At the center of the exhibition stands the figure of Pan, the Greek divinity of the woods, fields and pastures (but also the acronym of the entire exhibition), with the nineteenth-century painting “Pan and the nymph” by Émile Charles Dameron. There will also be works by six internationally renowned Italian contemporary artists, five painters: Alfonso Borghi, Andrea Vizzini, Antonio Nunziante, Marica Fasoli and Lamberto Melina; and a sculptor, Daniele Fortuna. The chosen works aim to immerse the visitor in a world where classicism and nature blend in harmony. Each artist interprets, with a unique sensitivity and very different artistic techniques (ranging from hyperrealism to chromatic materiality), classic characters through a contemporary filter, highlighting the intimate bond between humanity and the surrounding environment.

Another fundamental part of PAN will be the visits to local agricultural companies, divided into three weekends: Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May the “Oil Weekend”, with a visit to the “Poderi de Marte” company in Offida; Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th May the “Bread Weekend”, with a visit to the “La Pagnotta” company in Cossignano; Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May the “Wine Weekend”, with visits to the “Cantine D’Ercoli” and “Fiorano Organic Wineries” companies.

Finally, on each Saturday in May, conferences will be held at 6.00 pm at the Church of the Annunziata: moments of dialogue and exchange of knowledge on key topics such as biodiversity, climate change, and the social and economic development of the Italian hinterland. In addition to the inaugural conference on Saturday 4th, the themes will be “The landscape” on Saturday 11th, “Biodiversity” on Saturday 18th, and “A look at the future” on Saturday 25th.

Entrance to the exhibition does not require reservations, while visits and conferences require reservations while places last. For timetables, info and reservations, consult the website bit.ly/progetto-pan. For participation, a contribution to the FAI will be requested (minimum contribution of €5 for the inaugural aperitif). It will be possible to register with the FAI, with a special welcome fee of €15, up to 35 years of age.

«Art, culture, biodiversity, landscape», for Alessandra Stipa, FAI Marche regional president, «they are the inseparable elements of the PAN Project developed by the Young FAI from the Marche region, who worked together, connecting, exchanging ideas, proposals, relationships, contacts to offer moments of knowledge and leisure to those who want to follow them in the discovery of the much forgotten hinterland. A great success for the FAI’s bet on young people, who 10 years ago became the objective of an ambitious project which aimed to bring them closer to these issues so vital for every country, and even more so for Italy, so rich in all this».

Ilario Di Luca, FAI Giovani Marche regional coordinator and FAI Giovani San Benedetto del Tronto group leader, also underlines «the choral action promoted by the FAI Youth Groups of the Marche, with the desire to trigger a virtuous circle that leads to the promotion of environmental conservation and the valorisation of the tangible and intangible heritage of local communities. A journey with the aim of describing the Marche hinterland, the villages rich in history, treasure chests of the most refined arts, the succession of hills with unique biodiversity: this is the PAN Project – Landscape, Art, Nature».

«The exhibition “PAN, between myth and nature” – states the curator Sandie Zanini of the “Zanini Arte” gallery in San Benedetto Po (MN) – aims to challenge the boundaries of time and space, leading the visitor on a fascinating journey between Myth and Nature. Uniting the past and present, exploring the rich legacy of classical subjects and their rediscovery through works of art created by the diverse hands of exceptional contemporary artists».

These are the words of Roberto Luciani, mayor of Cossignano: «The Administration of Cossignano is thrilled to present the PAN project in our municipality, an extraordinary opportunity to enhance our rich landscape, artistic and natural heritage. We are grateful to the Colombo family, the FAI Giovani and the “Zanini Arte” Gallery for choosing our village as the venue for this prestigious event».

The role of the Colombo family is also important, as they made ideas, resources and the spaces of Palazzo Fassitelli available to the project. For Ivo Colombo «Italy offers incredible riches to those who have the patience to explore it and the courage to stray from the most popular routes. The PAN Project was born and developed in the Marche, a land with enormous potential, still largely to be discovered and valorised. A land of harmonious contrasts between tradition and innovation, where man and nature have collaborated for centuries to create a unique and evocative landscape. This Project was created to spread awareness, strengthen protection and promote the valorization of the Marche hinterland, an extraordinary gift that we have inherited from previous generations and an unrepeatable treasure to be preserved for future ones».
