Tension in the procession against the G7 Environment organized in Turin by activists from the Askatasuna social center and student collectives on the first day of the meeting of ministers at the Royal Palace of Venaria. The demonstrators, around one hundred in total, were pushed back by the police and carabinieri with shields at the entrance to Via Po, the street of Turin which leads to Piazza Castello, where the dinner of the summit delegations is scheduled. Some were thrown from the ranks of the procession glass bottle and eggs against the police, which they then used tear gas and water cannons to drive away the militants. A protester was taken to hospital after being injured by a tear gas canister fired by the police during the riots.
In the afternoon they had been the activists of Extinction Rebellion to take center stage by unexpectedly climbing onto the roof of a building in Piazza Carlo Emanuele II, home to the biology faculty, from where they displayed a banner with the words ‘The king is nake, G7 is a scam’ (The king is naked, the G7 it’s a joke’.).
