Cuneo, chaos in the majority on the CRC Foundation: the Center abandons the Council

Other than rising temperatures. Despite the weather conditions outside, in the city council of Cuneo the barometer is showing stormy weather. The lightning arrives a few minutes before eight, followed by thunder: “Today’s discussion between the coalition groups on the CRC Foundation issue has generated a situation that requires urgent majority verification” the Centro per Cuneo group writes in a note. Which adds: “To avoid further misunderstandings, we await the convening of the majority coordination and we abandon the work of this municipal council”.

This is what filters into a confrontation that one can only imagine was very heated. The issue is political and perhaps does not only concern the appointments to the Foundation’s board of directors, that is, the issue that has shaken relations between the mayor and the centrist group in recent weeks, bringing them to the breaking point. The position statements arrive shortly: “It’s a shame” the leader of the Independents blurts out Giancarlo Boselliafter reading the note. “We are in the presence of the opening of a political crisis, you must take note of it” he adds, addressing the half-empty benches of the centre-left: “It is serious that the crisis opens in this way, without even having the courage to do so in front of the entire Council”.

Ugo Sturlese of Cuneo for Common Goods deplores i “contemptuous terms towards the opposition but also towards the majority allies”. “We’re embarrassed too” it gets worse Claudio Bongiovanni (Cuneo Mia), accusing the “Aventinians” of the center of having abandoned the work, in reality, to participate in a concomitant electoral event. “We are even more indignant than you” he replies Mavy Civallero (SiAmo Cuneo) from the center right, shooting chained balls at the Center: “These people are just looking for the right hand and I hope no one gives it to them”.

The solidarity with the mayor comes from where one might least expect it, in the words of Beppe Lauria: “I feel humanly close to the mayor, I believe that something like this has never happened and I believe that, given the way she honored her agreement, she didn’t deserve it”. What happened, adds the exponent of Indipendenza!, “it highlights blackmail in a plastic way: I use the term blackmail, which is something different from a political act. You can decide to submit or not to do so, in this situation either you demonstrate that you have her attributes or you will be remembered as the mayor who suffered blackmail for her entire mandate”.

In the end the Prime Minister Marco Vernetti acknowledges the irreparable situation and suspends the session. More than the next group leaders’ conference, we will now have to wait for the outcome of other consultations.
