Actuality

From 3 to 6 May a delegation from the Casa della Comunità Speranza association of Mazara del Vallo will be involved in Tunis in the international conference “Le Transfrontalier, Développement et Entrepreneuriat Enjeux et devenir sud/sud/nord méditerranée” organized by the Méditerravenir association with the support from the Ministry of the Tunisian Government of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, with the participation among the various speakers of the Algerian ambassador in Tunis, the Belgian ambassador in Tunisia, a parliamentarian from Libya, teachers and university researchers.

The event will involve the Casa della Comunità Speranza association of Mazara del Vallo in the presentation of the project “Training, work support and creation of entrepreneurial activities for young Tunisians and forced migrants in Sicily and Tunisia” and its results. The project, which has a cross-border dimension, involving associations from the territories of Tunisia and Sicily, was started in 2019 thanks to the financing of Free to Leave, Free to Stay campaign promoted by the Italian Episcopal Conference, and will end in the next few months.

Over the five years, the project has involved many young people from both sides of the Mediterranean in job training courses, professional internships and in the start-up of small business activities in the agriculture, catering, food processing and food packaging sectors. . Small actions that supported growth, improvement and acquisition of new skills projects in the Tunisian territory for some young people at risk of forced migration gave them new job prospects in their homeland.

Participation in the event, which will bring together the northern and southern shores of the Mediterranean and the Maghreb cross-border areas between Libya, Tunisia and Algeria, will give the association the opportunity to strengthen the dialogue and knowledge necessary to build new alliances and collaborations that see the new generations are increasingly at the centre.

The delegation of the Casa della Comunità Speranza association, with some young people, will also visit the city of Mahdia, the city from which most of the Tunisians now residing in Mazara del Vallo come from, with whom the association has for many years established bonds of esteem and friendship accompanying the growth paths of the new generations. The visit will also encourage meetings with local economic and development realities to prepare the ground for new partnerships and collaborations.
