New donation for the Oncology department

Monday 29 April 2024 – 5.03pm

Two medicine trolleys, a lamp for outpatient use and a television to be installed in room 5 to entertain patients while waiting for therapy. To donate them to the Medical Oncology Department directed by Dr. Carlo Milandri, for a total value of almost 3 thousand euros, is the AVO, Hospital Volunteers Association. They were delivered this afternoon by the president Avo, Maddalena Conti Redi and the vice president Annalucia Troiani.

Founded in 1975 in Milan, AVO operates throughout Italy with 246 offices including that of Arezzo where it has been present within the San Donato hospital since 1981 with the aim of providing a qualified and free service to patients thanks to the friendly presence of volunteers who they offer help, listening and dialogue to people hospitalized, making them feel less alone without, however, ever replacing healthcare personnel.
In Arezzo AVO operates within the medicine, geriatrics, orthopaedics, oncology and emergency departments and also collaborates with paediatrics.
«Avo has always been attentive to the needs of the departments and their patients – explains Maddalena Conti Redi, president of Avo Arezzo -. In agreement with Dr. Milandri and Dr. Belardi, department coordinator, have decided to donate a television that will furnish a room for patient use, two multifunctional trolleys for therapies and an LED lamp for medical use». «Welcome, company, listening and dialogue are our tasks – continues President Avo -. The relationship with the oncology department has always been very strong and we collaborate on the “Wig Project” intended for women undergoing chemotherapy, contributing every year to the expense necessary for their purchase. Furthermore, we are present in the department every day with our volunteers who welcome patients at the entrance to the Calcit building.”
«I want to thank Avo for this donation which enriches our department – declares Dr. Carlo Milandri Director UOC Medical Oncology Arezzo -. These are very useful devices for the work of our staff and which benefit our and our patients who now, thanks to the TV screen, will be able to entertain themselves while waiting to undergo the therapy or during the treatments themselves. The collaboration of Avo, as well as that offered by the other Arezzo associations, is fundamental for us because it helps us to offer the best services to our patients by establishing a relationship of collaboration and trust with them, made up of listening and dialogue, which are important aspects for their well-being.”
