Furthermore, he highlighted the opportunity for Municipal Administrations to network also with regards to the use of video surveillance, in particular by associating themselves to present projects that embrace multiple municipal territories in order to position the cameras (preferably license plate readers) along the routes of access to larger geographical areas.

In this regard, already in this round 14 municipalities have joined together to present 6 supra-municipal projects.

Finally, he reiterated that to make the cameras more operational and effective it is necessary to provide for their connection to the operations rooms of the police forces and the use of license plate readers is preferable, just as it is important to provide funds in the budget to be allocated to the ordinary maintenance of technological infrastructures.

Of the Municipalities that presented the projects approved today, for a total number of more than a thousand cameras that affect the territories of the local authorities that participated, those that will be admitted to the financing will have to pass the selection that will be carried out, on the basis of specific criteria, by the Ministry of the Interior.

This is the joint commitment on the strategic side of strengthening video surveillance systems. At the same time, constant attention to the coordinated control of the territory continues thanks to the use of additional resources which are oriented, in a dynamic manner, in the areas in which particular needs emerge. In this context, as had already been decided at the outcome of the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security – held in Sala Consilina on 18 April – from tomorrow a specialized Operational Intervention Team (SIO) will be operational in Vallo di Diano in the control of the territory and in crime prevention activities, with particular regard to crimes against property.
