With a second half played with attention, discipline and coolness in Benevento they managed to overturn a match that in the first half had been largely in favor of Messina who had scored three tries in the 27th, 36th and 40th minutes. After the goal in the 13th minute, Benevento had lost the key to the game and the initiative had passed into the hands of the Sicilians who took advantage of ten free kicks and were permanently stationed in the opponent’s half of the pitch, putting the Samnite defense under strong pressure.
In the second half, Benevento, with careful play and careful use of the foot game, carried out a slow but inexorable comeback which resulted in three converted tries (4′, 22′, 30′) of which one in numerical inferiority due to a yellow card, with the final seal in the 36th minute of a kick between the posts which determined a partial of 24 to 0, the final victory and the bonus point.
While waiting for the final day, the ranking of the hot positions sees Perugia at 28, Benevento and Arechi tied at 26. Next Sunday in Salerno there will be a direct clash between Arechi and Perugia, Benevento will be in Rome on the Capitolina pitch. Victory is needed to avoid last place which opens the door to the play-offs with the last of the other 3 groups. The positive news is that the federal council has reduced the relegations from three to one and therefore only one team will emerge from the play-offs relegated to the 2024-2025 series C.
