At 1.04am on 7 July, that is, three minutes after entering the Foro Italico construction site together with seven boys who would then rape her, the victim received a phone call that lasted 29 seconds. And, at 2am, i.e. after the rape, she was the one who sent two messages to that same number writing: “I can’t anymore” with a typo and then the same text again, but corrected. A very important fact, according to the defenders of the six young people accused of gang violence, who this morning had asked to obtain both a consultation on the victim’s cell phone and to speak to the person with whom she had these contacts. The preliminary hearing judge only accepted the second request and therefore the lawyers they opted for the trialrenouncing the abbreviated form.

Obviously the content of the call is not known, but it is known that the call was made by a boy who was also identified. His testimony could clarify, for example, whether the young woman asked him for help or explained where he was at that moment. According to the reconstruction of the defense consultant of Angelo Flores, Cristian Barone, Gabriele Di Trapani, Christian Maronia, Samuele La Grassa and Elio Arnao, the boy would have had first contact with the victim during the evening of 6 July. A message to be exact. Then at 1.04, when the nineteen year old was already inside the construction site together with the defendants, and finally at 2. Did the two have an appointment? For the moment it is not clear.

What is certain is that, for the lawyers, on the basis of their defense investigations, several points of the nineteen-year-old’s reconstruction do not add up. Moreover, she herself during the evidentiary incident, had denied having used his cell phone immediately after the sexual assault. That phone call on 1.04 disproves it. And this is also why the lawyers had asked the preliminary hearing judge Cristina Lo Bue to hear from the young woman and also the boy who called her: to get clarifications on the call and its content.
It will almost certainly be discussed again in court, where the hearing will open on May 15th.
