Registration has officially opened for “Le Vele d’Epoca dell’Alto Tirreno – Trofeo Valdettaro” scheduled from 24 to 26 May 2024 at the docks of the seaside village of delle Grazie in Porto Venere, in the Gulf of La Spezia. The event is organized by Marina Nord – Se.Ve.Spezia, and by the Italian Sailing Federation (FIV), which delegates its organization at sea to the Asd affiliate Forza e Coraggio delle Grazie of Porto Venere with the collaboration of the Association Italiana Vele d’Epoca (AIVE), of the International Committee of the Mediterranean (CIM), of the Associazione Vele Storiche Viareggio, of the 5.5m SI class and of the Italian Naval League section of La Spezia, with the contribution of the Valdettaro Naval Shipyard. Two regattas are scheduled. Among the collateral events, a Latin sail sailing organized by the Traditional Sailing Association, with crews from all over Italy, as well as the dinner on Saturday evening at the Valdettaro Naval Shipyard. Giancarlo Lodigiani, the recently deceased AIVE president, will be remembered. An exhibition will be dedicated to the admiral and sailing champion Agostino Straulino.

“VINTAGE SAILS OF THE UPPER TYRRHENIAN – VALDETTARO TROPHY”, FROM 24 TO 26 MAY 2024

After five years, “Le Vele d’Epoca nel Golfo”, the annual event dedicated to historic boats that has always been held at the Grazie di Porto Venere in the Gulf of La Spezia, it is renewed and changes its name, although it continues to take place in the same location. From the 24 to 26 May 2024in what is considered one of the most beautiful seaside villages in Liguria, one is expected fifty boats between classic sails and for the first time a fleet of 5.5 SI and lateen sails. The event, sponsored by the Municipality of Porto Venere, is organized with the contribution of Valdettaro Group And Sanlorenzo Shipyards in addition to the collaboration of Porto Venere SVI, Borgata Marinara La Spezia Centro, Osculati, Olimpic Sails, Cantiere della Memoria, Traditional Sailing School of Maritime and Massucco Azienda Agricola. The arrival of the boats is scheduled for Friday 24 May. Two days of regattas will follow, Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May, with the crew dinner on Saturday evening at the Valdettaro Shipyard. As part of the event, theTraditional Sailing Association will organize a sailing of lateen sails, called “Sailor’s Trophy”, where no fewer than 20 boats with crews from all over Italy are expected. The figure of will also be remembered Giancarlo Lodigianithe AIVE president who passed away last February 29th, already owner of the 1959 Sparkman & Stephens Voscià. In those days the Construction Site of Memory will host a multimedia exhibition dedicated, on the centenary of his birth, to the figure of the Admiral Agostino StraulinoOlympic, European and national sailing champion.

ORGANIZATION AND REGISTRATION

The organization at sea of ​​“The Vintage Sails of the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea – Valdettaro Trophy” is delegated by the Italian Sailing Federation to the affiliate ASD Forza e Coraggio with the support of the MM Sailing Section of La Spezia and the collaboration of the Italian Association of Vintage Sails (AIVE), of the International Committee of the Mediterranean (CIM), of the 5.5 class YES, of the Viareggio Historical Sails Association and of the Italian Naval League La Spezia Section. The yachts will be hosted at the quay of the Grazie of Porto Venere from Wednesday 22 May until 12.00 on Monday 27 May 2024 and the secretariat will be set up in the area adjacent to the moorings. The regattas will take place in the waters of Gulf of La Spezia. In order to prepare a mooring plan, participation in the event must be communicated by May 10, 2024. CLASSES ALLOWED

TO “The Vintage Sails of the Upper Tyrrhenian Sea – Valdettaro Trophy” will be able to register Vintage Sailsor wooden or metal yachts built before 1950 (Vintage Yacht) and 1975 (Classic Yachts), as well as their identifiable replicas according to the provisions of the “Regulations for the tonnage and regattas of Vintage and Classic Yachts – CIM” and which are in possession of a valid CIM certificate. To these are added the Classic IORyachts launched between 1970 and 1984 in a good state of maintenance which have already had an IOR certificate in the past and which are in possession of a valid CIM certificate, the Historic Yachts, according to the definition of the Historical Sails Association of Viareggio, which will run in real time and can be divided into groups of more than three at the discretion of the Organizing Committee. Class hulls are also permitted 5.5 Meters YES (International Tonnage), who will compete on a dedicated route for the assignment of Volpina Trophy.

THE FLEET

Among the boats that will present themselves on the starting line Pilgrim (1971), the Arpège Sula (1972), Ilda (1946) by the president of Vele Storiche Viareggio Gianni Fernandes, Ojala II (1973), Barbara (1923), Crivizza (1966) by the new AIVE president Gigi Rolandi, Seven Seas (2000), the 8 Meters SI Margaret (1926), Greylag (1932), Alcyone (1952), Omphale (1962), Swallow II (1948), Heron V (1972), Tulli (1960), Lospray (1961), Gazell (1935), Rabbit (1965), Kerkyra II (1968) as well as Penelope (1965) and the newly restored one Artica II (1956) of the Navy. To these are added the hulls of the Class 5.5 SI (International Tonnage), from the historian Griffin of the Navy a Rabicano, Manuela V, Violet, Volpina III, Cybele And Kukururu.

SPECIAL PRIZES

Gianfranco Vecchio Perpetual Challenge Trophywanted in 2017 by Strength and Courage in memory of the late citizen of the Grazie who did his utmost for the culture of the sea it will be awarded to the first place in the Vintage boats.

Memorial Roberta Talamoni, a leading figure in the sailing and seafaring world of the Gulf of La Spezia as well as the organizing spirit of the “Vele d’Epoca nel Golfo”. She passed away prematurely in 2023, she will live again in the Memorial that will be attributed to her to the crew with the largest female component.

Sergio Guazzotti Cupto be awarded to the first place among the classic IORs, in memory of the illustrious officer, protagonist between the 80s and 90s of the offshore activity carried out by the SVMM with boats of the caliber of “Gemini”, “Merope” and “Bellatrix” .

Volpina Trophythe classic event of the 5.5 SI class which, for this year, will take place at Grazie, in the context of this event.
