CESENATICO – Andrea Valeri from Ancona won the eighth edition of the “Garrett Contest”, the most important European competition dedicated to metal detector enthusiasts which took place today on the free beach of Cesenatico. A success in the photo finish (23 tokens found) with only one target difference from second place Giovanni Zoboli (same placing as last year), who only preceded Daniele Cortesi in the draw. Both, in fact, during a vibrant final, had found 22 “coins” and therefore a draw was necessary to outline the exact positions of the podium.

Although narrow, Valeri’s victory – which succeeds Simone Montaletti from Forlimpopoli (sixth in this edition) from Romagna (sixth in this edition) – is not a surprise. The Marche native, in fact, is one of the most expert researchers in the sector and, already in other editions, he had come very close to success. Andrea Valeri got the better of three hundred participants, an absolute record of registrations for the event organized by Securitaly which, thanks to its Detector Shop division, brought the greatest interpreters of the discipline to Cesenatico. But, beyond the rankings, what was staged today, in the splendid setting of Piazza Andrea Costa, was above all a huge party with moments of entertainment of the highest level. Like the musical show-musicals of Dance Dream, the Cesenatico dance school which staged three American-style choreographies as a tribute to the 60th anniversary of Garrett, the Texan company which is the world’s leader in the marketing of metal detectors which, since first edition, sponsors the Cesenatico event. The final ballet inspired by Sister Act with the dancers dressed as nuns was particularly applauded. Also very popular were the “detectors” who, gleaning between sympathy and seduction, “disturbed” the competitors’ search operations, giving the competition a pinch of jovial spirit. For the rest, it is worth mentioning the high representation of female competitors, a sign that metal detecting is increasingly becoming a genderless discipline. There were also many children who had fun in the area in front of the competition field trying their first searches.
