the impact of the climate crisis on migration” – Targatocn.it

The second appointment of the event will be held on Friday 3 May from 8.45 pm, at the Casa del Quartiere Donatello (Via Augusto Rostagni 23L, Cuneo), with the title “Climate migrants: the impact of the climate crisis on migration”.

Guests of the evening will be Elisa Palazzi, researcher and professor of climate physics at the University of Turin, and Elisa Elia, lawyer expert in immigration law.

The meeting aims to be an opportunity to reflect on the complex relationship between climate change and migration, with particular attention to the condition of legal vulnerability that affects the figure of “environmental migrants”.

In a divided world, characterized by an unequal distribution of power and resources, forms of political-economic domination persist which contribute to reducing the resilience and adaptation capacity of the poorest countries, the most exposed to the consequences of climate change.

The intensification of extreme events, combined with drought, food insecurity and conflicts, generates increasingly impactful effects on human settlements, forcing millions of people to abandon their homes.

In this context of growing emergency, there is still no universally recognized legal definition that guarantees a form of protection to those forced to migrate due to environmental changes.

The intent of this year’s review is to place the interdependence between colonialism and other systems of power at the center of the debate, which is why we chose to adopt an intersectional perspective to investigate a multidimensional phenomenon. Talking about climate migration presupposes, in fact, talking about economics, politics, society, culture, environment and how each of these dimensions is intertwined with the others.

In this second appointment the debate will be accompanied by new artistic forms that can help stimulate reflection on the issues addressed. In particular, after the speeches of the speakers, there will be a live painting performance by Marianna Bruno – illustrator graduated from the Libera Accademia d’Arte Novalia and freelance author whose books have been published by Italian and foreign publishing houses – with the accompaniment musical by Daniele Danzi, graduated from the “G. Verdi” Conservatory of Turin, who boasts several collaborations with national orchestras, contemporary music ensembles and with artists in multiple musical fields.

The initiative is organized in collaboration with Casa del Quartiere Donatello, Emmaus Cuneo, the Vivere la Constitution Committee and Birrificio Agricolo Kauss.

Entrance is free.
