Villazzano, district against the pylons of the Marzola – Trento power line
Descriptive text here

TRENT. Villazzano, way back in 2015, was the only city district to reject the project of the new Terna power line signed in 2010 by the then governor Lorenzo Dellai and the former mayor of Trento Alessandro Andreatta.

A 17 million euro project that will bring 29 high voltage pylons (132 Kv) to the slopes of the Marzola with heights ranging from 24 to 42 meters with a devastating visual impact, indiscriminate deforestationthe inevitable construction of new service roads and other consequences not considered in the substantial document delivered for the environmental impact assessment such as, just to give an example, the damage caused by electromagnetic fields on avifauna.

«A matter of time – it was said at the time in the debate – but the bulldozers and chainsaws will arrive at the foot of the Marzola. Someone will benefit from some abundant portion of firewood, but the mountain around Trento which had the advantage of being the most uncontaminated, will be fatally disfigured.”

Correct prediction: for now the bulldozers are missing but the chainsaws have arrived, helicopters and concrete mixers for the installation of the new line, stacks of firewood and wood chips, piled up haphazardly by the helicopter on the lawns of the former Pramarquart powder magazines awaiting assignment or sale. A sort of “Vaia 2” which could have easily been “attenuated” if the alternatives such as burying the line had been evaluated, proposed by environmentalist associations, by some far-sighted politicians and by the Villazzano district itself which, through a post on social media, now go back to the attack with the president Alessia Tarter (in the photo) which essentially confirms perplexity and opposition to a project that will inevitably have a heavy impact on this part of the mountain.

«Regarding the recent works that the eye of the most attentive people can see on the slopes of Marzola – the president’s post begins – the Villazzano district deems it appropriate to reiterate and express its position again. In recent days, helicopters could be seen carrying out some trips carrying cut trees on the slopes of Marzola. The district has already expressed its opposition to the work with a resolution dated January 13, 2015, when the then district council expressed a contrary opinion to the project presented by Terna Spa; on 22 January 2021 we returned to the topic again, asking the Municipality and, through it, the provincial bodies, if it was considered appropriate and feasible to modify the project, providing for the burial also thanks to the numerous forest roads present, which would have simplified the operation. The response promptly arrived from the Sustainability and Ecological Transition Service – continues the document – reiterates once again the total support of the municipal administration to the project, seen as a solution to improve the current state of the power lines that cross the city of Trento. However, it remains incomprehensible why they did not want to explore with the company Terna Spa the possibility of burying the new line under construction, certainly with an increase in cost, but with an undoubted lasting landscape benefit, also given the similar operations carried out in other areas by the same company. We therefore remain perplexed – concludes Alessia Tarter – in the face of such closure, but in any case available for dialogue with those who rightly express concern”.

Once work has begun, it is obviously impracticable to rethink the project but the “mystery” of why, in 2010, it was never thought of to involve the districts on whose territory (among other things burdened by Civic Use) was hypothesized remains unsolved. a project of this magnitude.
