“The theme of this tenth edition of the conference is the future or rather the prospects of a cultivation such as hazelnut which has had a great expansion in the last ten years, but which today is experiencing a moment of stasis, of uncertainty – continues Gianluca Griseri, technician among the organizers of the conference –. We need to find sustainable and innovative hazelnut management methods that can cope with climate change and increasing production costs. In short, a modern cultivation that leaves no room for improvisation, but grows following a concrete management and development program to guarantee fair remuneration to producers. Environmental sustainability, but also productive and economic, where quality must represent an essential element for the future of the entire Italian hazelnut production chain”.

After greetings from Enrico Allasiapresident of Confagricoltura Cuneo and Confagricoltura Piemonte, Alberto Ciriopresident of the Piedmont Region e Mark ProtopopeCouncilor for Agriculture of the Piedmont Region, the journalist Lorenzo Tosimoderator of the morning, will start the work of the conference.

The program includes the intervention of Thanks Rovira of the Institute of Agri-food Research and Technology (IRTA) of Tarragona which will present hazelnut cultivation in Spain, between the present situation and future prospects. Following Sergio Tombesi of the Department of Sustainable Plant Production Sciences of the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Piacenza will illustrate the possibility of using non-sucking rootstocks in modern coriliculture. Subsequently, Vincenzo Tagliavento, Phy.Dia laboratory manager. spin off of the University of Tuscia (Viterbo), will deal with the diagnostic methods of the main plant diseases that affect the hazelnut tree. In conclusion, Giuseppe Celanoprofessor of the Agriculture – DIFARMA course at the University of Salerno, will delve into the topic of sustainability of Italian coriliculture in light of climate change.

An exhibition of machinery used in hazelnut cultivation will be set up outside the PalaExpo. The day will continue with the usual “open doors” of the Chianchia company, specialized in the production of machines for harvesting, cleaning and drying hazelnuts.

The conference is valid for the issuing of training credits for those registered in the Register of the Interregional Federation of Orders of Agronomists and Forestry Doctors of Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta and of the Interprovincial College of Agricultural Experts and Graduated Agricultural Experts of Alessandria, Asti, Cuneo , Turin and Valle d’Aosta.
