Craftsmanship will resist artificial intelligence – Corriere di Viterbo

Craftsmanship will resist artificial intelligence. The 17th edition of Forme e Colori, an exhibition-competition of artisanal products, kicked off last Wednesday and will be hosted until 19 May at the headquarters of the Carivit Foundation, in Palazzo Brugiotti which houses the ceramic museum, waiting to move, starting from next year, in the headquarters of the same foundation in Valle Faul.

The awards ceremony will take place on May 18th

Presenting it, among others, were the secretary of the Cna of Viterbo and Civitavecchia, Luigia Melaragni, and the president of Carivit Luigi Pasqualetti, who are the two promoters of the initiative, and the councilor for economic development Silvio Franco. 35 artisan companies and 3 high schools are involved, for a total of 80 works on display. The awards ceremony will take place on May 18th: 3 thousand euros for the first place and one thousand for the second. The works will not only be by artists from the Viterbo area but will also come from other Lazio provinces and other regions. The theme chosen for this edition is De Natura, to address a topic that Tito Lucrezio Caro could not foresee when he wrote his almost homonymous work: the relationship between artisanal creation and artificial intelligence.

The goal is to “celebrate the importance of craftsmanship in the era of artificial intelligence”

In fact, the objective, explained Melaragni, is to “celebrate the importance of craftsmanship in the era of artificial intelligence”. In fact, he argued, “nature and artifice are both fundamental elements of our existence, they contribute to defining our identity and our being in the world. If technology offers innovative solutions for production, artistic craftsmanship can still represent the alternative to standardization and impersonality”.

And “at a time when it seems that man is delegating everything to artificial intelligence, we see that if there is no human head, things do not proceed as one would expect”, confirmed Pasqualetti. Who then outlined the prospect of transferring the ceramic museum to Valle Faul, “now the gateway to the city”, leaving an exhibition of works by artists from Viterbo with works on loan at Palazzo Brugiotti. A project that meets the announcement made by the mayor Frontini of wanting to establish, right in Valle Faul, a meeting point for tourists who will stay in bed and breakfasts and will be able to leave their luggage there.

Franco: “We are looking for a connection with other cities to develop initiatives”

“Ceramics is an important aspect for the economic development of the territory,” said Franco, recalling then that “Viterbo is part of the association of ceramic cities, and we are looking for a connection with other cities to develop initiatives and invent something in the city like Buongiorno Ceramica and Scarpette rossa. We want to continue investing and pushing this sector.”
