The reshoring, or the repatriation of delocalized production, is “an opportunity” for the economy of the Marche, especially if it concerns those productions in which “quality is the main component”. The teacher supports it Alessia Lo Turcoprofessor of political economy at the Polytechnic University of Marche.

The economist notes that the condition for reshoring is that of possibility of controlling the production chain and quality. Currently «the data shows that there are very few companies that reshoring, while there is still no sign of reversing the trend towards offshoring (relocation of companies to other countries, ed), as shown for example by the Fabrianese painting”.

According to the teacher, to push companies to return to the Marche or stay in the Marche it is necessary to «use the resources of the Pnrr (National Recovery and Resilience Plan, ed) to improve the attractiveness of the territory, strengthening connections, infrastructures and connectivity”.

In short, it’s useful a sprint on the front of rail, road and air connections, but also on the fiber front, so that companies are put in a position to remain in the Marche: «The competitive framework is very pressing – he notes – compared to other territories, but also compared to other countries where the cost of labor is higher Bass. Improving receptivity and connection can certainly reduce transport costs.”

Alongside action on infrastructure and connections, according to Professor Lo Turco, it is also necessary to act with investments in improving the training of the workforce. The keystone, according to the economist, is represented by «niche productionsthe more complex ones, for which countries with low labor costs are not yet specialized, including, for example, advanced mechanical productions. The more the complexity of production increases, the less exposure to international competition there is” he specifies.

On the supply chain front, for the teacher the main path is represented by the expansion of those productions that require a more educated and specialized workforce, and “by adding services to the production of goods, for example manufacturing”. Among the services cited by the economist there are «customer attention, design, planning, marketing, customer care, customer care: the product must not just be an artefact to be sent to the tertiary sector, but a product recognizable, which is characterized by a distinctive trait”.
