Brindisi beats Venice but Treviso wins in Varese: white and blue in A2

After 12 seasons, New Basket Brindisi returns to A2 a day early, and not due to the demerits of coach Sakota’s team, which also won the important match against Reyer Venezia with a score of 84-80, but for the results of the matches in Treviso (victory in Varese 100-95) and Pesaro (at home against Cremona 91-86).

THE MATCH – Therefore the Apulian team’s worthy effort was worth nothing, as they obviously couldn’t erase everything that happened this season and that today led to this painful relegation. The crowd showed no shortage of support until the end of the match, singing chants for his immediate return to Serie A. Brindisi starts well, with good executions against the different defenses proposed by coach Spahija, for an inspired Sneed there is a Bartley who he argues with the iron of Pentassuglia. Happy Casa soon takes the lead in scoring but the guests’ comeback materializes in the second part of the first quarter: Spissu scores three consecutive bombs, Tucker completes the three-point play, Casarin goes to the rim beating Washington from the dribble. After the long break due to technical problems with the scoreboard, the first quarter ends with a score of 19-22. In the second quarter the whole Happy Casa is concentrated, except Andrew Smith who commits three fouls in a few seconds, two of which were very avoidable; on the other hand, Lombardi is now the best alternative in the power forward spot and Bayehe has returned to the very good levels of the beginning of the season. Coach Spahija requests a minute’s suspension but fails to change the inertia of the match: Morris scores two heavy triples, while Bartley finally finds the first two points upon returning to the field. Reyer limits herself to isolations and it is easier for Brindisi to score the game defensively, even if Tucker is a highlight-reel demon and alone restarts Reyer’s heartbeat. Halftime at 45-38.

Brindisi also starts strong in the second half, but Reyer finds good shots and makes her long shots a difficult weapon for the Apulians to counter, however the Orogranata team are unable to equalize even after coach Spahija’s timeout; Morris, Sneed and Bayehe brought the lead back to double digits at 67 to 57 after 30 minutes. With the public now aware of the results arriving from other fields, and therefore despite the mathematical certainty of relegation, Brindisi completed a match played very well and therefore deservedly won with a score of 84-80.
