Virtus Bisceglie wins the first category playoff semi-final

The 5-1 victory obtained at the expense of Real San Giovanni on the last day of the regular season is the culmination of the excellent path achieved. Virtus Bisceglie in the playoffs of the First Category championship: the team coached by Roberto Maffucci finished in third place in group A with 54 points. The progress report of 17 successes and 3 draws against six defeats is the summary of the excellent work done by the team, constantly at the top of the tournament. The 67 goals scored in 26 days constitute the best haul of the group. The biancazzurri will face Ideale Bari (fourth place) in the semi-final in a single match which will most likely be played on Sunday 5 May and if they progress to the next round they will meet Audace Barletta away who secured second place behind them of the promoted Maracanà San Severo.

The difference in motivations played a decisive role in the match played at “Di Liddo” with the Gargano players, safe for some time and determined to honor their commitment to the end. The result was immediately broken by Papagni, who was quick to take advantage of his opponents’ defensive inattention (4′). The post hit by Di Franco preceded Virtus’ second goal, scored by Papagni in the 10th minute with a precise left-footed shot. Three scored in the 12th minute by Trawaly, who scored his personal brace in the 36th minute. Real San Giovanni closed the gap in the 44th minute thanks to Cassano. The second half was decidedly slower: the only flash came in the 85th minute, when Papagni closed the score by scoring a hat-trick which allowed him to reach 13 goals in the scoring charts. Participation in the First Category playoffs is undoubtedly a significant moment in the short history of Virtus Bisceglie.
