Desire for a “bridge” for the Romans: between 25 April and 1 May one million people will fly from Fiumicino

The desire for a holiday is growing in this first taste of summer. Fiumicino and Ciampino airports have never been so good in the days from 25 April to 1 May: Romans took advantage of these holidays to go on holiday in Italy or abroad. There will be approximately 1 million passengers who will transit the two Roman airports for the long weekend of 25 April and in the period between Wednesday 24 April and Wednesday 1 May. This is according to the estimates of Aeroporti di Roma, according to which passengers will reach 1.2 million if the return day of Thursday 2 May is also included. It is the prelude to the peaks of departing or transit passengers which historically occur in the months of July and August. For the long weekend between April 25th and May 1st, the Romans have chosen medium-range destinations, especially in Italy: they go on holiday for 4 or 5 days maximum, the return is expected between Friday and Sunday.

Sicily stands out among the most popular national destinations, at the top of the list are the most attractive destinations on the island such as Palermo and Catania. For abroad, however, at the top of the cities preferred by Romans are the classic Spanish destinations such as Madrid and Barcelona. In third place another evergreen: Paris. While for the United States the favorite destination for Romans these days is New York, which even has 9 flights departing a day from Fiumicino in this taste of summer. It is a real boom in departing tourists which, according to the latest data from Aeroporti di Roma, has led the aggregate traffic in April 2024 to therefore record an increase of 10% compared to 2019, the year before Covid, when the airport of Fiumicino recorded peaks exceeding 43 million passengers a year. These numbers also help to explain the recent results obtained especially by Fiumicino airport: in recent weeks the Da Vinci was awarded, for the seventh consecutive year, as the best airport in the world by the international association Aci World for the quality of services to travelers in the category of airports with more than 40 million passengers: the levels of cleanliness and ease of access to the gates are decisive. Not only that: the independent organization Skytrax also awarded the Da Vinci as the best airport in the world for safety.
