On Thursday 30 November, at 11.00 am, the “Don Tonino Bello” dormitory will be inaugurated, managed by Caritas of Salerno and located in Piazza San Francesco, in the rooms adjacent to the convent of the Capuchin friars. The dormitory had already been active in the city for several years, thanks to the work of Father Antonio Tomay and other talented collaborators. Since 2022, Caritas has supported the work of the previous association, until the definitive change of management which occurred this year.

The structure is a male dormitory, capable of accommodating up to 25 guests, and is part of the process of supporting needy brothers that Caritas has put in place, alongside the services of the Charity Centre, with a first reception dormitory and during the day, and at the San Francesco Mensa. The “Don Tonino Bello” dormitory is a “second reception” facility, open to all those experiencing housing but non-economic hardship (low-income people, pensioners or occasional workers).

Access to the structure takes place after an interview at the Diocesan Listening Center and the payment of a solidarity contribution is required, agreed on the basis of each individual’s abilities, and which will serve to contribute to the maintenance of the structure itself: utilities, improvements, repairs. The sole purpose of the contribution is to make guests more involved, but also responsible and respectful of the place where they live, and to initiate them towards a gradual social reintegration.
