Castelbello

From Bassa Tesina in Val Venosta, to Castelbello, at the foot of the castle of the same name. Here is one very small and renowned production of asparagus, started over thirty years ago by Hubert and Martin Pohl from Köfelgut. Today, just 3 hectares are dedicated to the cultivation of Castelbello asparagus, a true delicacy that is the protagonist of the “Asparagus Weeks”, an opportunity to discover all the food and wine “fields” of the area, starting with wine: with 25 and a half hectares of extension , Castelbello it is the largest wine-growing municipality in Val Venosta and the main wine, which can also be enjoyed with asparagus, is Pinot Blanc. Not to be outdone is the cultivation of apples, which is particularly renowned. So, until the end of May, a calendar of appointments will make these productions better known with weekly appointments in the cellar, among the apple orchards, in the asparagus fields and, of course, at the table (the entire program on www.valvenosta.net).

Discover the territory

And as always, wine and food are also an opportunity to discover the area: in the center of Castelbello, to welcome food and wine lovers, hikers and cyclists, there is the fountain with the frog prince. It is said that this fairy tale originated right here, at the court of the ancient noble Montalban family. Four castles also stand here: Castel Juval, Castel Castelbello, Castel Kasten and the Colsano fort above Castel Hochgalsaun, worth visiting before dedicating yourself to local products and flavors.
