Bisceglie remember the Carabinieri Marshal Carlo De Trizio died 18 years ago, aged 37, in Iraq during the mission “Ancient Babylon“.

It was 27 April 2006 when, at 08:50 (06:50 in Italy), along a road south-west of the town of An Nassiriyaa patrol of the Italian contingent made up of four protected vehicles of the Carabinieri Regiment of the MSU (Multinational Specialized Unit) – with an Army Officer on board, 15 soldiers of the Carabinieri and a graduate of the Romanian Military Police – was involved in theexplosion of a bomb located in the center of the roadway.

The convoy was on its way to the Pjoc (Provincial Joint Operation Centre, the integrated operations room of the Province’s security forces) where the soldiers involved in the attack were supposed to carry out their regular service for the usual coordination activities with the local security forces in the control of the territory. The vehicle hit suffered limited damage externally, while the interior was completely destroyed by the explosion. Among the soldiers who died in the attack was Marshal De Trizio, active at the Rome Radiomobile Unit and originally from Bisceglie, who was in Iraq for just 13 days.

Today, in the chapel of municipal cemetery of Biscegliea ceremony was held in memory of De Trizio in the presence of the mayor Angelantonio Angaranoof the Brigadier General Ubaldo Del Monacocommander of the Carabinieri Legion “Puglia”, and of all the civil and military representatives of the Bat province.

They were placed near the monumental tomb a wreath of flowers of the municipal administration e a cushion of flowers by the Carabinieri.

Since 10 July 2009, it has been dedicated to the memory of Carlo De Trizio. the Bisceglie carabinieri barracks. The non-commissioned officer was awarded the Cross of Honor to victims of acts of terrorism or hostile acts engaged in military and civil operations abroad, to memory, with the following motivation: “During the Ancient Babylon Operation, while operating within the maneuver unit of the MSU Regiment, during a transfer on board a vehicle armored vehicle, was fatally hit by the devastating effects of the explosion of a bomb detonated by unknown terrorists as the convoy passed”.
