Tragedy along the tracks late this morning, Saturday 27 April: a train headed for Ciriè hit a man who was along the tracks of the SFM4 railway line.

The event happened near the Villastellone airport: shortly before 11 am train 26522 of the Alba-Ciriè line, which left Alba at 9.07, hit the victim, a 66-year-old man.

Help immediately arrived on the scene and the man was taken from the tracks still alive, but attempts to save him were in vain: the 66-year-old died after a few minutes.

The accident caused serious delays along the entire Ciriè-Alba line, with trains cancelled also in the connection between the city of D’Oria and Turin.

The engineer driving the train reportedly claimed to have seen someone on the tracks, but was unable to stop the train in time.

Rail traffic was blocked for a few hours near the Trofarello station, with the intervention of the judicial authorities requested for investigations following the accident.

Furthermore, according to what the newspaper La Stampa reports, some people who rushed to the scene of the tragedy said that the victim discovered a few days ago that he was ill, sinking into a state of desperation.
