Lamezia Terme – “The data provided by the same ASP of Catanzaro for the year 2024, based on the cost of personnel between new hires and retirements, testifies to the unstoppable weakening of Lamezia’s healthcare system and our hospital. From them it can be seen that at the end of 2024, due to the retirement of many employees, those in service, despite the new hires and stabilisations, will be 59 fewer, i.e. the number will go from 2,940 units to 2,881 units. All this will obviously aggravate the problems for the organization of local healthcare and above all for the health of people, in particular the elderly and frail, with negative repercussions on the entire user base”. This is what the PD city secretary, Gennarino Masi, said in a note.

“Even in the absence of certified data, we are convinced that the overall costs for the company will not be reduced proportionately, on the contrary, they will increase due to the inevitable use of accredited private individuals in addition to the greater direct expenditure of families (only those who can afford it) – he continues – To this end, the data from an analysis by the Gimbe Foundation is dramatic: in Calabria, 7.2% of families in 2022 renounced healthcare services due to absolute poverty, highlighting that in all eight regions of Southern Italy the expectation of life is lower than the national average, an indirect indicator of the low quality of regional health services. All this beyond the chatter of President Occhiuto and his followers, of captivating slogans and illusory proclamations, it is certain that differentiated autonomy will never be able to reduce inequalities in healthcare, because it will make the Central-Southern Regions increasingly dependent on rich Northern Regions, while the conference of mayors remains fugitive. The differentiated autonomy for the matter of ‘health protection’ will not only lead to the collapse of healthcare in the South, but will also deal the final blow to the NHS, causing an unprecedented health, economic and social disaster. Only for an ‘exchange of courtesies’ in the political arena between the supporters of differentiated autonomy and the supporters of presidentialism, two reforms which, beyond any reasonable doubt, will split the unity of the country, we are in fact giving up the greatest social achievement of the country and to a pillar of our democracy: public health”.
