An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 – INGV reports – was recorded tonight at 00:58 in the province of Florence, 2 kilometers north-east of Barberino del Mugello. Other smaller tremors were also recorded shortly afterwards in the same area. No damage was reported. The shocks, about ten of which above magnitude level 2, are a seismic swarm that went on for hours.

“No critical issues have been reported” the president of the Tuscany Region, Eugenio Giani, reassured in a post on his Facebook profile. “In the Barberino di Mugello area – writes Giani – there were mild tremors. The highest was magnitude 3.1”. “A new earthquake of magnitude 3.0 was felt by the population between Barberino di Mugello and the Val di Bisenzio“. Overall, about 50 tremors were recorded.

The area affected is the Apennine area, not new to these phenomena, between the provinces of Florence and Prato, Mugello and Valbisenzio: almost all the tremors had Barberino as their epicentre. In the past, major tremors had hit Marradi.
