Wanted for fraud in Hungary, arrested in La Spezia

(ANSA) – LA SPEZIA, APRIL 27 – A 52-year-old affected by a European arrest warrant issued by Hungary for fraud crimes was arrested with false documents in Portovenere by the flying squad of La Spezia with the collaboration of that of Florence. He had been wanted for some years throughout Europe and, on one occasion, he had already avoided capture in Florence, making a daring escape onto the roofs adjacent to the building where he lived.

At the moment, the details of the fraud crimes he is accused of in Hungary are not known to the Italian authorities. At the time of identification, the man declared himself to be a Latvian citizen, born in 1970, showing the officers an identity card and a driving license apparently issued by the Latvian authorities, on which his photograph was affixed, but both the documents were found to be counterfeit. Having contested the possession of the false documents, in an extreme attempt to evade capture, the man claimed to be a Lithuanian citizen, born in 1970, once again providing false personal details. The investigations carried out in the meantime have allowed him to be identified as the person wanted by Hungary. The man was transferred to the Genoa Marassi prison. (HANDLE). .
