With institutional greetings from Carlo Corazza, Director of the European Parliament, Rome section, from Sen. Guido Castelli, Special Commissioner of the Government for the repair and reconstruction of the 2016 earthquake – remotely, the video contribution of Eng. Fabrizio Curcio, Head of the Civil Protection Department – Sisto Russo, Director responsible for Volunteering within the Civil Protection Department, was followed by the speech of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani.

“The Italian Civil Protection – underlined the Minister – enjoys great credibility in the world. This is a recognition that I can attest to precisely through my role at the Farnesina and in the contacts that I have to have due to my institutional role. A country like ours, which is exposed to seismic and hydrogeological risks, the Civil Protection has been able to acquire, with commitment and operational capacity throughout the planet, an image of great importance thanks to the splendid action of those operators, technicians and volunteers of the Department have testified in Italy and also abroad, combining technical efficiency with a human quality and an involvement of solidarity that is recognized by all”

“Precisely for this reason – continues Tajani – I want to express my thanks which is not rhetorical but also supported by those concrete aspects that are recognized by our Civil Protection. The immediate intervention action also contains within itself a trust and esteem that finds an economic recognition that foreign countries feel they can entrust to our companies, for those reconstruction works that populations affected by disasters or unforeseen events feel as if they are important for give back to their life plans, a future of hope and rebirth. It is precisely for these human characters, of admiration, of returns that are also decisive for the growth of Italy that I want to express my gratitude to you”.

Francesca Peppucci – “I come from a small municipality, from a small region, Umbria, which has been at the center of seismic events and calamities that have upset the lives of thousands of people. It is precisely starting from these experiences that I can affirm that the work of the Civil Protection has taken on a decisive meaning – I am referring to my role at the time as a local administrator”

The event continued with a discussion between Local Authorities affected by the 2016 Earthquake in which Nicola Alemanno, Mayor of Norcia – Suspended, Michele Franchi, Mayor of Arquata del Tronto and the role of Organized National and Territorial Civil Protection Volunteering in Italy and in Europe which was attended by Dario Pasini, President of the Territorial Commission for Organized Civil Protection Volunteering, Luigi Di Iorio, CISOM, Board of Directors of the National Commission for Organized Civil Protection Volunteering, speaking about it with the mayor of Norcia – Suspended.

“The role of Civil Protection is rapidly expanding – said Dario Pasini, President of the Territorial Civil Protection Volunteering Commission – if before Covid it had a more emergency role, during and after the pandemic volunteers have become a fundamental cornerstone of many other activities , which go beyond the role of emergency resolution. And the communities, starting with the Mayors, are well aware of this”

The event concluded with the delivery of the European Parliament certificate to the Representatives of the Organized Volunteering of Civil Protection National and Territorial Commissions.
