VITTORIO VENETO (TREVISO) – «I didn’t expect a flyer with those accusations: an inopportune exit. However, I would have expected – states the Northern League mayoral candidate Giovanni Braido – that the other evening, in the council, the deputy mayor Gianluca Posocco and the councilor Antonella Caldart had at least dissociated themselves from that flyer, but this did not happen. And I must say that they didn’t make a good impression.”
The controversy
The flyer released after last week’s city council meeting continues to be talked about and divided, portraying Mirella Balliana, mayoral candidate for the centre-left coalition, and Northern League members Giovanni Braido and Giancarlo Scottà defined as “The irresponsible” and, following, the text “Lega, Pd and allies are scuppering precious projects in order to put the junta in the minority. Now make us alternative proposals”, flyer signed by Vittorio Veneto in Action which nominates five of its representatives within the civic list Gianluca Posocco for Mayor. «Braido’s face was put on the flyer, who is not a municipal councilor and therefore was not present in the chamber, unless someone already knew what he had voted for” notes the secretary of the League Roberto Parrella. The centre-left, Pd and Rinascita Civica, preferred an institutional response to that leaflet, condemning him harshly Wednesday evening in the classroom. «We decided not to respond with the same means used with the flyer and the posts, because politics is taking responsibility – comments the candidate for mayor Mirella Balliana, portrayed in the flyer – For example, when a council knows that it does not have a majority in the chamber, it undertakes to find a compromise to carry out the necessary things by opening a discussion”. «A disorganized, vulgar and instrumental attack – comments Enrico Padoan, head of the civic list Mirella Balliana Mayor – Balliana was defined as “irresponsible” for having refused to vote on an inadmissible, in substance and method, package of budget changes during the penultimate council. The response to these attacks was chosen in institutional settings, exposing the victimization and propaganda strategy unsuccessfully attempted by the outgoing junta. We hope that the electoral campaign will be animated by a frank and transparent discussion». Mayoral candidate Braido is of the same opinion: «This is not political criticism, because Azione has put on its flyer a person who has not been in administration for 15 years and who is not in the city council and his only flaw is being a mayoral candidate, but being a candidate for mayor does not correspond to doing council work.”
Posocco posters defaced
In the meantime, other posters of mayoral candidate Gianluca Posocco have been defaced. «If this is the kids’ way of protesting, so be it! Of course, I’m sorry, but if it’s limited to this I accept it – states Posocco -. These days a lot of stimuli are coming from kids through anonymous questionnaires: they are angry and complain about the closure of older citizens.” Posocco also replied to those who, on 25 April, relaunched via social media his participation, 11 years ago, in a meeting organized by Casapound: «I have reiterated several times my distance from this group. Over the years I have also distanced myself from the League which on several occasions has shown clear signs of having moved very “to the right”. But evidently someone doesn’t want to hear it and continues to publish this photo online to discredit me.”
Towards the elections, the appointments
Among the upcoming events, the May 2nd at 8.30pm in the Mavv space in via del Gelsolino the candidate Balliana meets the inhabitants of Meschio to talk about the future of the neighbourhood, while on 4 May at 11am Braido organized a meeting focusing on the swimming pool facility at the Veronica bar of the swimming pools. «The swimming pool will be in the first public works plan for a relaunch at a national level» he says.
