It’s time for the big party, it’s the most awaited moment. Tomorrow, the time comes for the external celebrations of San Giorgio martyr, patron saint of Modica. At 8 and 12 cannon shots. Holy masses at 8.30 and 9.30. At 9.30 the Belluardo-Risadelli band goes around the streets of the city. The solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Msgr. is scheduled for 11am. Ignazio Petriglieri, vicar general of the diocese of Noto, with the presence of the civil and military authorities, the Catholic association of bearers of St. George the Martyr and the Frederick Knights Templar. At the end, the mayor of Modica will recite the act of entrusting the city to the patron saint and light the votive candle. At 3.30 pm, the holy mass presided over by the parish priest of the cathedral, the priest Michele Fidone. At 4pm there will be the triumphal “Sciuta” of the relics and simulacrum of St. George the martyr. Choreography by the “sciuta” group, pyrotechnic execution by the FireSud company.

The procession with the simulacrum will follow the following route: Corso San Giorgio, Corso Crispi, Via Santa Teresa, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, Corso Sicilia, Viale Manzoni, Piazza Carcere, Via Don Bosco, Via Botta, Corso Principessa Maria del Belgio, Piazza San Giovanni , via Morana, piazza Principe di Piemonte, via Morana, piazza San Giovanni, corso Regina Margherita, piazza Santa Teresa, corso Nino Barone, via Fontana, viale Quasimodo, via Santa Margherita, via Marchesa Tedeschi, corso Umberto, piazza Corrado Rizzone, corso Umberto, via Napoli, corso San Giorgio. At 6.30pm music and dancing with Dino Migliorisi and Silvana Bonomo. Tasting of typical Sicilian products in the cathedral square. The proceeds will be donated to the parish Caritas. As the simulacrum passes through the “Padre Basile” urban park, there will be a fireworks display. Furthermore, at midnight there will be a fireworks display by the FireSud company. Then the return of the procession which will be characterized by the traditional “turns” between the naves of the cathedral and, to conclude, the subsequent blessing. “A moment of great celebration for all of Modica – comments the provincial president of Confcommercio Ragusa, Gianluca Manenti who, together with the sectional president Giorgio Moncada, is supporting the event from a media point of view – there are no doubts about the fact that there will be a consistent presence of people and all this will also increase the flow of visitors who, for the occasion, will flock to the county city. It truly promises to be a moment of great popular participation.”
