The humanitarian project of the project was successfully concluded Rotary Club L’Aquila in the “Laura Castri” nursery school of the Maria Ferrari Institute of Tondo-Manila in the Philippines.

Under the Presidency of Dr. Rosa Persia, the Rotary Foundation Commission of the Rotary Club of L’Aquila concluded, with a budget of 6,000 US dollars, the “Laura Castri Nursery School” project in the disadvantaged and peripheral district of Tondo in Manila in the Philippines , with the collaboration of the Clubs Atessa-Media Val di Sangro, L’Aquila-Gran Sasso d’Italia, Rotaract L’Aquila and with the extra-Rotary contribution of two construction companies from L’Aquila (SO.AL.CO and CO.GE. TO).

The nursery school named in memory of the young Laura Castri from L’Aquila was founded about 10 years ago by the Zealous Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of the Maria Ferrari Institute of the House of Manila near a vast area of slum dwellers and vulnerable people. Tondo is the largest district of Manila and is one of the most densely populated areas in the world with approximately 70 thousand inhabitants per square kilometer. Over 50% of the population lives below the poverty line. Various humanitarian organizations are trying in every way to save the growing number of street children who suffer from hunger on a daily basis and the majority of the population is deprived of basic hygiene conditions, drinking water and often electricity.

With their educational intervention, and also with constant nutritional support, the Sisters of the Ferrari Institute have proposed themselves as a key to overcoming the marginalization and exclusion of many children, exposed daily to the risks of deviance in its most subtle forms, like the deplorable sexual market which can be considered a logical consequence of the right to survive the same misery. In the nursery school of the Ferrari Sisters of the Tondo Mission, nutritional support is an integral part of the reception and integration activity of minors, understood as a necessary intervention, preparatory to the teaching itself, dictated by the constant situation of malnutrition and malnutrition involving children of the reference context of the School.

With this Project DG2456793, the Rotary Club of L’Aquila, as the lead club which created and is responsible for the Project, wanted to reach out to this periphery of the world, trying to be of assistance to the children of the needy Tondo district by strengthening the teaching materials, including a printer, 6 50-inch smart TVs for the 4 classrooms of the school, for the multipurpose room for starting IT and for the games room, renewing the furnishings of the classrooms with 60 chairs with folding tables, providing play equipment for the spaces external (3 slides) and for internal spaces (15 packs of building blocks), stationery materials and gardening equipment for the creation of an educational vegetable garden that allows children to be educated by planting the future and nurturing the hope of a dignified life even in a degraded area of a large Asian metropolis.
