From mayor of Messina he used to keep everyone on edge with periodic outbursts towards councillors, councilors and boards of directors of investee companies. Towards loyalists, dolphins or elected “thanks to me”, Cateno De Luca he doesn’t skimp on quick attacks on Facebook live broadcasts declassified 24 hours later citing them to his character. For his part Federico Basilewho has been mayor of Messina for two years, has a completely different style, more inclined to calm tones and to smooth the corners left dangerously sharp by its leader. A bit like good cop and bad cop. But what has happened in recent weeks is a sign that the situation, with the heat of the electoral campaign, it became tense, revealing cracks.
THE CATENO DIKTAT
From his hospital bed Cateno wrote on a vitriolic post (HERE) what he seriously thinks: that is, that “his” people, understood as elected in his movement, are truly the “his” in the strictest sense of the term and moreover, in that election they put little of their own and a lot of De Luca. In short, that they owe him everything and are completely ungrateful. So in the post he uses terms like “my mayor”or Federico Basile who in truth is the mayor of all the people of Messina, and adds “in my name and on my behalf he will have the letters of resignation of councilors and boards of directors of subsidiaries delivered etc etc”. UIt’s a bit like claiming that Basile’s council is his and he modifies it as he wants.
UNGRATEFUL AND PARASITES
Basile then in Chainthought he acts in the name and on behalf of De Luca and in addition to following his dictates he must also act like him. In the post he also has some feelings for the dolphin, Danilo Lo Giudice, and for the bourgeois, lying down, parasites, satyrs dancing on his corpse, rabble ready to sell their votes to the first bidder and minding their own business. In the top ten of the ungrateful Dafne Musolino is joined in second place by Alessandro De Leoexpelled via press release from the Ars group.
Cateno De Luca’s post is a very clear message to sailors: I created you and I destroy you.
BASILE THE FIREMAN
Basile tried this time too to be a fireman. The fuse is a little bigger than the one Cateno blew up two weeks ago when he decided that the mayor of Messina he had to change his mind about the Bridge as he had done and took him to Torre Faro at the rally on 25 April. The mayor yesterday tried to declassify the diktat of its leader in “call to arms” adding that at the end of June, after two years, his team needs a good cut. In short, De Luca would have done well to ask “blank” resignation of the Basile administration so that everyone is committed to seeking votes and bringing economic support to the electoral campaign for the European elections. And it’s all there from a political point of view. De Luca had not burst into the life of Palazzo Zanca for some time and the Basile team probably saw him busy with completely different matters, traveling around Italy building a national party.
Cateno’s outburst turned the clock back to the beginning of 2022 when he was the mayor and posted signs on the doors “flying donkeys don’t come in here.”
The reactions to the request for resignation through a third party were of PD, first through the city councilors Felice Calabrò, Alessandro Russo, Antonella Russo, then with a note from the party. For the Dems it emerged how DeLuca is not only the leader of the political movement but the undisputed head of the municipal administration who decides the fate of councilors and boards of directors.
PD: DE LUCA IS THE MAYOR
“The top-down and utilitarian conception that De Luca has of politics is evident and has nothing to do with the much vaunted “freedom” or the much evoked “free and pure vote”: De Luca demands that councilors and board members stop to administer and go around looking for votes for him. The attitude of Mayor Basile is embarrassing, as he seems not to realize how much he has been diminished in his role and minimizes the significance of the statements. Basile remembers that he was elected to serve the city not to please its leader.”
Comment Palmira Mancuso (regional coordinator of Più Europa): “ The cult of Cateno has reached its peak: he doesn’t care about institutional roles or parliamentary mandates. “I made you and I will destroy you. And whoever is not with me is against me. And anyone from the institutions where I put him who doesn’t campaign for me (as the more zealous Basile and Calafiore do) is against me.” And resignation for everyone. Do we Messina people deserve this?”
THE STUNY BREAKUPS
If on the one hand the expulsion of Alessandro De Leo from the Ars group HERE (who becomes the third former Deluchian in the Region) has further reduced the patrol of regional deputies, on the other hand he risks, with the decisions that the 3 municipal councilors of De Leo’s reference, to further restrict the Basile majority’s room for maneuver in the Chamber. But there is more, because De Leo (who we remember just a year ago ran for mayor in Taormina in order to guarantee De Luca the second list and victory), comes after another stormy breakup, the one that brought the Senator Dafne Musolino to Italia Viva. Even before that there had been the farewell of the former deputy mayor Carlotta Previti.
THETHE WIND AND THE CANDLES
These are cracks which, together with the commitment to a European-level electoral campaign, evidently led to Cateno’s outburst from the hospital ward. Legitimate bitterness that the leader of the South calls North. On the other hand there are those who are perhaps more than proud of the work done in the role they hold and wonder why they should ever be considered a parasite and dancing satyr or why they have to submit their resignation blank as women are asked for “fear” that they will decide to become mothers. As a Sicilian proverb says: “we need the wind…….but not to stud the cannels”.
But today, as often happens with De Luca, is another day and yesterday’s outburst has been downgraded to a “call to arms” (until June 9th because the calculations are made on the doorstep).
