street art to attract tourists

After QM San Paolo, a Bari SanPArt arrives. The district St. Paul continues to color with street artwith 11 new works that will illuminate the buildings Ark Puglia. The project of «urban and social redevelopment of the neighborhood», promoted by Doc Creativity in collaboration with Studio Planning Idea, was presented yesterday morning in via Cifariello 12, where the Turin artist Vesod is already creating the first mural of the project.

A work that will represent the rose window of the cathedral of San Sabino, protagonist of the play of lights on the day of the summer solstice (when the sunlight entering through the rose window ends up illuminating the image of the same rose window present on the floor of the cathedral). In addition to him, ten other artists from seven different countries are involved: the Greek Dimitri Taxis (Greece); Eloise Gillow from the United Kingdom; the other Italian Nian; Zoer from France; Sim Sa Font (Spain); Cheone (Italy); Spider Tag (Spain); Thiago Mazza (Brazil); Iota (Belgium); Alba Fabre Sacristán (Spain). The objective of the project is to create a single story, made up of 11 narrative points, the starting point of which will be toponymy. «Starting from the characters after whom the streets are named – explain the organizers – the artists will be asked to represent Puglia in their murals, following macro themes such as music, multiculturalism, the future, tradition, cuisine, vegetation» .

Open-air works of art

The open-air museum, which was already talked about when the first phase of the neighborhood museum project was created, with the creation of the first ten murals within the other project called QM San Paolo, will be created partly with the production of an illustrative brochure, which will collect all the artistic works present in the neighborhood. A QR code will be inserted inside which will allow you to view and download the contents, creating a tourist itinerary, in order to make the San Paolo a real urban museum, capable of attracting a notable flow of visitors, even from abroad, improving the quality of life of residents. The last stage of the project will be a final public restitution event, in which the murals will be inaugurated and the workshops will be presented. As underlined by the artistic director of SanPArt, Cesare Bettini, it is an «unrepeatable opportunity for the urban and social regeneration of the San Paolo district, which we will conduct in the name of artistic creativity and exploiting the powerful expressive and participation tools that it offers» .

«We enter the San Paolo neighborhood asking for permission – he adds – in total respect of its peculiarities and the development directions indicated by the administration, aware that it is a reality relegated to the outskirts for many years but which is ready for relaunch. The project, social before artistic, has a strong international vocation, which aims to make the neighborhood known around the world but also to make those who live there every day proud.”

The project

The project was financed with 210 thousand euros, coming from Poc Metro funds as the winner of the “Urban Art” public notice. In addition to the building in via Cifariello, the buildings in via Giacomo Pugliese 7 are affected by the project; via Giacomo Pugliese 17; via Andrea Miglionico 16; via Filippo Cifariello 10; via Saverio Altamura 1; via delle Regioni 1; via delle Regioni 21; via delle Regioni 23; via Corrado Giaquinto 8; via Ludwig van Beethoven 1. As with the QM San Paolo project, this too will be a participatory project that will see the involvement of the citizens of the neighborhood, specifically those in the area where the living works will be built. Barring unforeseen circumstances, all murals will be completed by May 31st.
