he ate the leftovers from a tray

It took nine months, but Vincenzo D’Introno, the 22 year old from the province of Bari who passed away in Livigno last July 5th and has returned home. The boy was found in the commercial area of Fiumicino by the soldiers who approached him, finding him in a confused state. The appeal was launched by the family thanks to the Penelope Associationwhich deals with missing people: a team effort, together with the vigilantes and the police, which meant that the young man was stopped and rescued. He had been found in a fast food restaurant consuming customers’ leftovers and after an initial approach with the vigilantes, he attempted to walk away: he was immediately recognized and his family and the police were alerted.
«A report had arrived during the night – he says Rocco Micale, the vice-president of the Penelope Lazio Association -. After being contacted by the mall security guards, he was recognised. We took him to the barracks, checking his physical condition. The family members were immediately notified: they made the Bari-Rome trip in about four and a half hours. They couldn’t believe it.” Now Vincenzo has returned home, but the moment in which he hugged his family again «moved me. Not that it’s our fault, but the aim of the association is precisely to support families in these difficult and painful moments.”

What happened

The dynamics of the discovery were told by the operators during the program “Pomeriggio 5”: «When he told us that his name was Vincenzo, we understood that it was him because that same morning he had asked a colleague to make a phone call to his home» explained the security officer. Furthermore, on the same morning of the discovery, Vincenzo had called his mother. It is not known what happened over the course of these months, but the competent authorities are working to try to reconstruct everything. The boy’s traces were lost this summer in northern Italy, where he had gone for a job interview. «We thank the guys from the security of Parco Leonardo and the Carabinieri of Fiumicino for the timely intervention and the humanity shown towards Vincenzo» we read on the “Penelope Lazio Pdv” page and again «With teamwork, but above all with the Thanks to the timely intervention of our Penelope Lazio odv, the family was able to embrace Vincenzo D’introno who passed away last July. Many thanks to those who made the reports and led us to him” on the Apulian section of the association.
