Danger of travertine falling from the porticoes of Via Grande

LIVORNO – The alarm was raised by a Municipal Police officer who, seeing the cracks, called Avr staff to cordon off the area. Later the pieces of travertine were collapsed. At 5.20pm the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection also intervened. The damage affects the architraves of the porticoes that form the corner at the end of Via Grande with Piazza Guerrazzi. The material, which can be measured in pieces just under half a meter long, was detached on both sides of the structure. The area, which was immediately cordoned off and closed to pedestrians, will remain so until it is made safe. The administrators of the condominiums of the affected porticoes have contacted their surveyors to verify the damage suffered and arrange repairs.
