The traditional May Fair returns to Mercato Saraceno

The “May Fair” is back, an event organized by Proloco and the Municipality of Mercato Saraceno, on Sunday 5 May from 8:00 to 20:00, in the charming historic center of Mercato Saraceno, but the engines will start warming up the evening before with Radio Studio Delta. The Fair, rooted in the centuries-old traditions of the area and dating back to the 12th century, is an unmissable annual event that celebrates the authenticity and liveliness of the community.

Mercato Saraceno, as the historian Antonini defines it, was “a large sea port in the mountains, for its great trade”, favored by its geographical position on the borders of Tuscany and Montefeltro, joined to the latter by the old bridge over the Savio, unique in the whole valley, and now almost completely demolished. This fair, therefore, also known as the S. Monica fair, over time increasingly took on the character of an event for exchanges and commerce in the Valley and the surrounding areas. The May Fair has maintained its importance even today, which is why on May 5th you will see the streets of the historic center come alive with a vast street market, the producers’ market with delicious cured meats, cheeses and baked goods, together with the stand of the renowned market wines. Furthermore, in via Largo Fiume, the handmade market will be set up, offering a variety of unique artisan creations and a rich food street. There will be moments of musical entertainment to enrich the visitor experience.

In the charming Piazzetta del Savio, starting from the evening of Saturday 4 May, the Pro Loco will organize a food stand celebrating the Romagna tradition. Here you can taste the famous cappelletti handmade by the expert “azdore”, the typical Romagna piadina with sausage, cured meats and cheeses, the irresistible French fries and, to finish on a high note, an excellent pizza prepared personally by the president Stefano Romagnoli.
